I vaguely remember this one being advertised in the theater. I think I thought it was some kind of chick flick, so I never paid much attention to it based on the title, but when I read the positive review on High Def Digest and then saw it on sale for $13, I figured what the heck. It features Daniel Craig, and it is said that this film was one of the reasons why he got the role as the new Bond. It is the story of a drug dealer who decides to "get out" but his "boss" says "You know why guys like you can't retire? Because you make guys like me too much money..." and it goes down hill from there as one would expect. I was expecting more action, but it is actually mostly story/dialogue driven. It can be slow, but it has some great scenes and interesting twists, and I found it pretty entertaining overall. Worth a rent.

Yep, that was a good one.

Albus Dumbledore as a mobster.:D
That was pretty funny too. I've seen him in a few other movies before, but it was kind of weird seeing him in this role after HP.

"I don't like guns. But that one's really pretty."

I really liked the movie, right up until the end. I don't want to spoil it for those that haven't seen it, but the ending really bummed me out.

But that's exactly what makes it a really good movie not a Hollywood ending

I had a problem with the ending too, but it was because it seemed pulled directly from another movie...but if I tell you what that movie is, it will spoil this one too. I enjoy non-Hollywood endings and I did not entirely see this one coming. I was thinking "what about....?" but didn't think they would actually go there.

The British dialouge was also difficult to follow at times...reminding me of Snatch and Lock, Stock and 2 Smoking Barrels, both of which I really enjoyed too. Of note, you might recognize "Soap" who was also in in Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels.

HeHeHe...Ok, that is funny:D

As you now know.....Layer Cake is no chick flick....LOL

..............and a very good movie indeed!!

I would classify it as a 4 out of 5 stars movie(really liked it). In fact, it was a pleasant surprise because it slipped waaaaaaaaaay under the radar here in the USA.

So its British gagster film, you can tell I haven’t seen it the front cover on the DVD packing looked dodgy to me which is probably why I stuck my nose up at it. But having seeing (Daniel Craig) in “Tomb Raider” and “Casino Royel”I might give it a go on the rental I just have enough time to up to (Flicks) hmm, see you in a jiffy guys.

Just got back and yes Flicks had some “Layer Cake” I’ve just performed a pink noise check and I’m about to settle down for a late night THX JBL Dolby showing of “Layer Cake.” See you in a few hours time.:)

A rather edgy capper with some real nutters running with twists and double crossing. Sound was really great with occasional dialogue panning doors opening and closing deep LFE.1 that thumps out in the night club sequence or when “Morty” goes nuts in the "Regency café" was shocking yet funny at the same time. All the hard hitting punches smacking and kicking was happing right in my face without any strenuous distortion.

Yeah I’d think I’d add this to the region 2 DVD list soon and for £1.50 for a three-night rental isn’t too bad.

The image looked as if it was filmed in super35 and farmed at 2.35:1 was shape and colourful.

I liked this movie also and this was what had me excited about Daniel Craig as James Bond.

nice bump. :D I enjoyed it too, and I've seen it at least twice. Unfortunately, the BD PQ is definitely less than desirable.

i found PQ to be just fine, SQ also. this movie has a good story to it and always something going on. when this happens, i find myself forgetting about the gear and settings, etc. i get into the movie. this is how it should be. and in the end, what it is all about.

btw, there is a lot of "ooooh, didn't see that come'n"
