I'm a frick'n genius...... LOL I got it.... I changed the output frequency on the soundcard from 96 khz to 48khz and ureka!!!!!

That makes perfect sense since s/pdif is limited to 16/48. Now why didn't I even think to ask about that...getting slow in my old age.
