Theatre Restoration Week 1

Well, I've started putting back my basement theatre back together again.

Highlights include:

• A day of extracting water
• Pulling up the carpet/pad
• bundling and binding said carpet into 4 foot rolls, less than 40 lbs each (per Philly trash collection rules) FUN!
• Pulling up tack strips

Next week:

• Masonry contractor coming out to review basement slab
• Prep work on floor
• Deciding on new color scheme for the room.

Ah, so you have to practice 'garbage management' like I do. Any cardboard for recycling has to be bundled with twine into 2' x 2' bundles; otherwise, the garbage men will just walk on by. If the lid on the garbabe can isn't fully closed, again they will just pass on by.

Good luck with the project. At least you have a chance to re-do it exactly as you'd like. IMO, you should not add more carpet. While carpet may be slightly better for room acoustics, there isn't one single advantage to carpet. Early next year, I'm ripping out all of my carpet and replacing it with tile.

I posted some before pics at the beginning of this post.

I just had the masonry expert over, so now I'm mulling the idea of digging down the basement, and putting in a new floor as well.

I swear this is like that book "If you give a mouse a cookie..." My wife warned me that I wouldn't be able to stop. But hell, if you're going to start over, then let's start over!!!

I briefly considered tile, but would rather have carpet for both the acoustic properties as well as the comfort of walking barefoot in the theatre. Tile just feels too "kitchen-y" and "bathroomy" for a theatre.

Seriously, good luck on the rebuild. It's a pain but you have the chance to redo things that wouldn't have gotten changed otherwise. Gotta look on the bright side.

Uhm, my bad. I meant before pics that the room was full with equipment, not a empty room pic.

Not a problem. The previous week I posted pics and diagrams of the room with equipment because I was designing the room treatment options for the room. So all of that stuff will be waiting until OCtober.
