I've been anxiously awaiting the release of the new Sony XBR4/5 LCD's. I haven't had a chance to get to the local BB. Has anyone had a chance to see them, or do a side by side comparison with either Samsung (the new 81 series) or Sharp LCD's?

Thanks.

We actually just bought the Sony XBR4 52". I did compare it to the new Samsung (they were side by side)and pic quality is just about the same IMO. I thought the Sony was a little brighter, but that could just be the setting's. Decided on the Sony because it felt better built and liked the look. Both are very nice LCD's. The Samsung was $400 cheaper BTW.

I have seen the 46" and 52" XBR4 and while I haven't spent a lot of time looking at them I can't say they look any different than last years' XBR2 as far as picture quality goes. They look very good but I think the Sharp D92U series looks better. I have not compared them to Samsung.

I'm looking forward to seeing the new Samsung LED lit LCDs.

The first thing I would do is change the picture mode to "Standard". The default mode, "Vivid", is for in store shock and awe. Standard mode may not pop quite as much but it is a much more accurate image.
