Center Channel above projector Screen?

How bad of an idea is it to put the center channel above a projector screen? I was looking at a retractable screen and wondered it mounting the speaker to the ceiling as well presents an acoustically miserable situation?

Thanks.

Well, some of it is personal preference. You can change the voicing of the speaker by being close to a boundary if it's too close. I prefer underneath myself.

Now, onto another potential issue. If you have a retractable screen, I'm assuming (yes I know that's dangerous) that it's retracting into the ceiling? Isn't that an issue being in front of the center when it's deployed?

Well I was actually going to mount it in-front of the screen...odd I know but if it works than I'm game. I'm looking at mounting the screen somewhere where there is not a wall directly behind it which is why I'm thinking about mounting the speaker on the ceiling.

You have to decide if you can accept the sound coming from the top of the screen or the bottom, which position is closer to the left and right speakers. That is where you should place it or you will be disappointed.
Or, you can try both location?

Perhaps you could get an acoustically transparent screen and also have the speaker retract. That way, you could have the speaker in the middle of the screen (behind it).

Gotcha now on the setup. Tough to do without a wall. You may just have to do it that way.
