Dual Subwoofers in BR

Hey people,

I plan on adding another Klipsch sub to my bedroom HT. Currently I have a Synergy 10 Klipsch sub which I am very impressed with. If I add another Synergy, and just use a splitter for the sub out, will I lose a noticeable amount of bass performance, or is it worth it? In other words, how much does the sub rely on the amp (Sony STR junk) vs. it's own power supply?

Thanks:)

There should be no difference in quality of output. Using a y-adapter is going to divide the output of the subwoofer preout on the receiver, but this can be corrected by adjusting the gain on each subwoofer. The subwoofers you will be using are internally powered, and only need the line level output from the receiver.:)

Just something to think about. I know you like your sub but. Maybe put your sub on e-bay, and sell it. You'll be surprised what people pay on that site. Take the cash, and apply it to a better quality subwoofer.

Yes; one good sub will out-perform two so-so subs.

Everyone here is right, if you must get another Klipsch sub using a Y adapter won't do any real harm and it can be fixed with the gain control. Here is the more important part mazer is 100 percent right about selling your sub and buying a new one that has a much better output IMHO for the same reason Greg states.

The only reason I see to stick with the Klipsch and getting another or perhaps even getting another better sub would be if you want to use the second sub to flatten the frequency response via placement and phase adjustments. This method can do a great job if done right, which can be tons of work.

Good advise. I completely agree.

I agree totally. Sell it and look at my two favorite companies, SVS Sound & Hsu Research. They make no compromise subs at blue/white collar prices.

If the OP likes his Klipsch there is no reason for him to not get another. Getting a different sub, especially from one of these on-line only companies can be intimidating. I don't personally like Klipsch subs because they have rather resonant cabinets and weak amplification for their size, which they can sort of afford to do with driver efficiency. The Klipsch lower line subwoofers have trouble hitting the lowest of lows, and that would be another good reason to get a different one.

But, like I say, if the OP likes Klipsch there really isn't much else to be said. We could easily turn this into another SVS/HSU thread (and it feels like that is were this might be going), but I don't see how that is necessary. Just because one person or many thinks that Klipsch is not of appropriate quality shouldn't warrant "just sell it, and get a SVS or HSU". I am guilty of doing this as well, but I am going to try not doing that so much.:D

End rant...

I thought we were giving advice. Why would we tell him it's ok to buy a second sub-par sub when he could sale the one he has and put it towards a good sub?

Perhaps you were giving advice because I don't have an Ebay account, no internet connection, and my bedroom is not very large, (perfectly suited for "sub-par" subs.

Sounds like you are upset by what I said. Was not my intent to upset you; I was just saying what I would do. I am not sure how the "Ebay account, no internet connection" pieve fits in here.:)

It's ok I'm not terribly upset, I just thought that it was rude of you to insult the advice Seth=L gave me. I'm also a bit tired of people assuming that everyone sells equip on Ebay. I doubt I could sell this sub to anyone in my area, either.
