Anyone up for concert DVD’s?

While I’ve settled down for the afternoon with a few concert DVD’s to mellow the vibes on this fine looking afternoon.:)

U2 rattle and hum with shuddering low end.

Being enjoying some rattle and hum and shuddering low end kick with U2. I made a few adjustments to fit the mix into the room, with a slight boost in the 125Hz range on LCR trimmed the 62Hz and 125Hz on the LFE.1 boosted the 32Hz slightly for the JBL 4645 which shuddered the room “Where The Streets Have No Names” deeply and pleasing on this fine sunny summer day.

Lyrics came though clearly with little competition of the left and right instrumental. Not a bad concert rock film and in no is it dated, no way.

I see there’s a HD-DVD and Blu-Ray version due out very soon this year.

The film has monaural surrounds that add crowd atmosphere and occasional reverb instrumental along the sidewalls that was handled easily via the JBL control 1, while the control 5 up front in active crossover mode sang brightly with transparency and spackle.

Getting into some Jean Michel Jarre in China, it opens with very dynamic orchestral number with shuddering timpani that rocked the pillows of Forbidden City, clarity over the whole range of channels was staggeringly realistic.

Classic pieces from Oxygen never sounded this good with instrumentals being panned over the fronts and whooshing around the sidewall surrounds.

I noticed the levels on left and right where mixed quite high with certain parts of music, so little reducing of the master level and slight increase on the centre channel output as well as a few trims on the LF left and right and HF thou not as much as I’d like to maintain transparency of the sounds over the fronts.

This is JBL chest pounded, with shuddering LFE.1, window rattling JBL sensation, which vibrated the seat, like nobody’s business!

SPL db levels where kept within safety limits around +80dbA to +105dbc, if I’d trimmed the LFE.1 differently with 62Hz at 0db the depth at the back of room would be too overwhelming, with peaks close to 115dbc. The master fader is at the -10db level and still I seen the Alesis RA300 going into clip thanks to the DCX2496 and its management safety features.

Chapter 8 has a harmonistic mellow Zen feeling with good percussion of strings, which is backed up by a wonderfully choirs that gives it that heavenly emotion edge. The image on the transfer is remarkable clear for standard DVD.:p

The mega lows on the LFE.1 tracks varied from hard kicking lows to slam types and deep shuddering 25Hz tones maybe lower?

I haven't seen many concert DVDs, but a couple that I own and enjoy quite a bit are:

1. Fleetwood Mac - The Dance
2. The Cranberries - Beneath the Skin, Live in Paris

Another new DVD I have never seen. Thanks for the recommendation.
No problem, and thanks for posting the picture! You are far more motivated than I was this morning.

They had two releases of that DVD. As far as I know, the only difference was in the menus. The first release (that I got) has what is probably the worst menu system ever put onto a DVD - very slow, mind-numbing graphics, annoying sounds. I've read that the menu on the second release is much better.

Along with Pink Floyds PULSE, I really enjoy Eric Claptons ONE MORE CAR ONE MORE RIDER. And it has DTS.

I liked The Eagles - Hell Freezes Over.

Also, I don't know if this counts but The Last Waltz is awesome.

Jim, welcome to AH.

I have several already mentioned here and just added the Cranberries to my Netflix queue. Here's two:

X-Live In Los Angeles. This was recorded to commemorate the 25th anniversary of their first album. The godfather's of the L.A. Punk scene can still rock. For those in So. Cal. you can check them out live at The House of Blues in Anaheim on August 31st and September 1st 2007. I might run into you there.

The Brian Setzer Orchestra-Live in Japan. Brian's rockabilly swing band crosses many music genres and I can just about guarantee that everyone will find something to like about this FUN concert.

Thanks, Duff.

In retrospect, I think The Last Waltz would count as a concert video. I loved seeing all the different guests they had: Muddy Waters, Van Morrison, Neil Young, Joni Mitchell, Dr. John, Bob Dylan, etc. The DVD has some cool extras as well.

I can't remember the name of it but I have a DVD of a Grateful Dead concert at Alpine Valley that's pretty cool.

Also, if you are into the crossover thing, Bond has a pretty good concert video filmed at the Royal Albert Hall. (I didn't see any holes, though)

I also liked Peter Gabriel's Growing Up, as well as his Secret World tour.
Fleetwood Mac's The Dance is great, but my copy is not widescreen (if widescreen is available, I haven't seen it.)
The Blue Man Group's Rock Tour is one of my favorites.
If you are looking for something outside the rock/pop mainstream, Kodo live at the Acropolis and Celtic Woman, A New Journey are both outstanding.
I own a ton, but would have to go look at them to remember the titles. I know they include Bjork, Roxy Music, The Eagles, The Cure, Yanni, T Rex, Pink Floyd, Cream, Siouxee and the Banshees, Genesis, Chicago/Earth Wind and Fire, ELO, and Heart among many others.

Hi,
I recently picked up the Porcupine Tree "Arriving Somewhere..." concert DVD. It sounds real nice on the new system.

The mix isn't that great, but it still is an excellent concert disc; one of my favorites. I've seen them twice and both shows were great.

Diana Krall - Live in Paris has excellent sound.

Nine Inch Nails - And All That Could Have Been (DVD, full bitrate DTS) and Beside You in Time with the Dolby True HD track on Blu-ray and HD-DVD is amazing.

I was a big U2 fan back in the day (starting in '80), but after Rattle & Hum my ferver diminished because I am not fond of their newer stuff. I've seen them 4 times and they always put on a good show too.

Concert for George is a great concert DVD. (even if it is a little yuppieish.)

Steely Dan's TWO AGAINST NATURE in 5.1 DTS, only if you like The Dan, if not, might be too mellow for some, great playing by a solid core of musicians like Ricky Lawson, Cornelius Bumpus, Chris Potter, Jim Pug, Jon Herrington, and others that really showcase their chops. Extremely well recorded.

I decided to get UFOs at the Zoo by the Flaming Lips because I am a fan of their music. The show itself was great, but the music was recorded relentlessly, painfully loud. I just kept turning it down and down. By the time I got it to a tolerable level, I was 9dB below my usual setting, and the spoken-word banter was barely audible. At this point, I am not sure if I am even going to keep it.
