I was wondering if someone could give me some info on my next purchase. I am wanting to purchase one of the Samsung DLP with LED, preferrably the 61". I have found both models, the one with 1.1 HDMI and the one with 1.3 HDMI. The 1.3 model will only cost me about $225 more and I was wondering if this is a good investment or should I just go with the 1.1. Thanks for any and all help available..

Double post. I've now read both, thinking they were different. Please delete one of them. Thanks, John;)

I bought a Samsung DLP last week and ended up returning it the next day for something else. The build quality of most of the Samsung DLP's that we say was pretty bad.

The one we initially bought was the HL-T5076S and later we found out that the image on the screen can collapse by just pushing on the top of the tv. It was very bad. We checked out the other DLP models and they just looked very cheaply made.

One that my wife and I really liked was the Sony KDS-A2020 SXRD series LCoS tvs. They looked and felt solidly built with great PQ. They are not hdmi 1.3 tvs but you can get them at great prices right now.

What made you decide to push on top of the tv?

Chill brother, not everyone will respond to a particular question if they don't feel like they have anything useful to contribute.

For what it's worth, HDMI 1.3 won't necessarily buy you anything. 1.3 supports new features that aren't widely implemented yet - like Deep Color. It does you no good to buy a TV that supports 1.3 if none of your source devices support the new features enabled by 1.3.

Pick the TV that does support the features you need now and don't get too hung up on the 'future'. If you don't need it and can save a few bucks by buying a prior year's model, then go for it.

I was planning on putting my center channel on top of the tv so we were trying out a stand for it. At first I thought the stand might be too heavy so that's why I tried it with one finger as well and it didn't matter. Samsung used the cheapest flimsiest plastic they could find for the cabinet of the TV.

Weekends can be pretty slow on here. Hang in there and you will likely see a lot of responses tomorrow.

Don't worry about him. He has just learned of wrapping his electronics in paper so he has been busy.

I'm sorry I don't have any useful information about televisions. I am a Mitsubishi DLP fanboy.

Just going off of what I've seen and read here and there:
Mitsubishi Diamond series DLP would be worthwhile to look at. From what I've heard and read is that they're reliable, built well, and have a very good picture (neighbor has one). I own a Samsung HLR-5067 and have been very happy with it. I've learned how to tweak a few things and think the picture quality is superb. I've not had any issues with mine nor has my neighbor had any with his. If I did it now, I'd probably look at the Diamond series first and the Samsungs second.

Of course, I would not put a center channel directly on top of it because it isn't built to support one. I don't think this would be a wise decision on your part to do. Another option would be to place it below the TV and angle it upwards. The TVs are probably designed with the assumption that it will go into an entertainment unit with a place for a center. The center channels can be extremely heavy and I think you'd be hard pressed to find many TVs that can continually support the weight of a good-sized center. Just guessing, but I'd go with the thought that any TV currently manufactured is going to suffer some sort of bowing issue across the top (not the picture, but the frame) because of materials used.

Are you dead set on a DLP? There are other options around.

I am pretty set on a DLP since I have the space for it. Had a 62" Toshiba blow out on me and am replacing it!! I can get more inches for a smaller price going DLP instead of LCD or Plasma. Money kinda scarce right now. Sorry for the comments was just having a bad day and not getting any responses. Thanks for everyones help on here. Also I looked at the Diamond Series Mitsu's, but they run a little too expensive for me at this moment. If I could find one for about the same price as the Samsung then I would be all for it, but until then......I found the Samsung HLT-6187S (61") and a 4 year warranty for about $2,700. Do you know a place where I can get a Diamond for about the same price....Thanks again for all the help..

All depends on how you're figuring out the final cost. Are you including tax? Is this being purchased online? Is the warranty from the store or is it purchased elsewhere?

Check out Ultimate Electronics. They have last year's 65" model listed on the website at $2150.

I didn't look elsewhere. Just a quick search.

The warranty is from the store and that is the final cost. Also this is for the LED DLP and not the bulb one. I am leaning towards this for increase life and less electricity usage....I think I am going to go with the Samsung, but I appreciate everyones help on here...

My Mitsubishi DLP is only HDMI1.1, but my next Mitsubishi 73" (or bigger if they come out with one) will definitely be 1.3 (or higher:D).

Don't get the HDMI1.1! Get the latest and greatest:D
