Some of you may remember that my Rosewood finish SVS PB-12 Ultra developed some cracks in the veneer. So I had spoken to the SVS folks and arranged for the replacement. Since upgraditis was in the air, I decided to get the Black Piano Gloss finish. Following is the Sub-human story...

1) Opened boxes and behold the beauty... removed bass plate

2) Closeup of finish. The texture you see is the reflection of the ceiling!

3) Removed bass plate on the Rosewood sub. Let the surgery begin

4) The TV-12 Ultra subwoofer speaker. That thing is a beast.

5) Final stages of the heart transplant. Things are heading towards a success

6) Ah! All done and I have a sore back by now...

7) Now to fill the hole. (Keen eyes will notice the "Axiom FMS QS" stands)

8) Order is restored.

My wife walks in, she is not expecting the Black Piano Gloss finish. Her reaction sums it all, "THAT IS GORGEOUS!!", :D.

I don't know man, I'm kind of fond of that Rosenut finish. :)

Piano gloss black looks classy but is a magnet for dust and fingerprints. The room looks great nonetheless.

As an aside, how did the Rosenut finish of the sub match up with what looks like the Boston Cherry finish of the Axioms?

I donno. Its close for sure.

Agree about the piano finish being a magnet for dust and finger prints. I had to spend 5 minutes with a microfiber cloth getting all mine off...

The Rosenut finish in the semi gloss was just a tad brighter than the Boston Cherry "standard finish". I believe a better match would be if you got the VaSSallo version in Rosewood... puts the speaker in a different price bracket though.

So they just shipped you the enclosure, and you had to exchange driver, and amp?

Yup. I had the choice of getting a replacement Rosewood finish box for FREE, and pay only return shipping for the old box! But I wanted to upgrade to the Piano Black,it cost $100.

Plus return shipping for the old box which cost $190 for UPS insured ground shipping. It makes the $99 shipping charged by SVS seem very reasonable since AGS Shipping actually calls you and schedules an appointment for them to bring the package.

EDIT: The subwoofer was still in the warranty period.
PS. I am glad everyone enjoyed the story. It was a fun project, I also learnt how to use Flickr and use the

Love the piano gloss black! Looks great. I didn't realize this was your post at first until I got to the center channel stand picture. Then I though, "hey...wait a minute. I've seen those sawed off rear stands before."

Nice upgrade.
