Thanks for the extra input.

Yeah, the plus is a bit out of my budget, but I will just buy the wife some flowers before the bill shows up to get the pre-credits, actually, this one might cost me a dinner.

She did say I could do whatever I want with the room but I know that means as long as she is okay with it

I want to avoid the "what if" factor so I agree that I would be better with the plus.

Basement will be done in about three weeks so I should get to ordering that bad boy.

Thanks again for all the help

Michael, you may also want to check out their b-stock offerings. They have a 16-46 PC-Plus on their right now. It's $849 USD, but I don't know what that would be in Canadian.

Thanks for the tip Adam.

I will check it out but unfortunately buying straight out of the US any savings will be eaten up and then some by duty. Biggest problem is you never know the actual duty until you buy it and it hits the border. Even worse is half the time a broker has to get involved which costs you even more.

One shipment I got from there a few years ago, centre channel, the duty and broker fees cost me twice as much as the speaker. Caught me off gaurd as I did not know about it

I am going to be purchasing from http://www.sonicboomaudio.com an authorized SVS dealer. Only issue is they do not stock every model (but they say they can get them)

Anyway. I will head over and check out the B stock.

Thanks again
Michael

I'd talk to SonicBoom and SVS and see if they can work out getting you one of the b-stocks, if they have one that you are interested in.

My thoughts exactly j_garcia.

sonic boom does say that while they do not carry all SVS models they can get them in on special request.

I will browse the B-stock tonight and see what I come up with.

Itching to drop the bomb and get my first "real" sub on its way

Cheers and thanks
Michael

Even if you can't find a way to float the Plus, the PCi is no slouch. It fills my large room very well.....however if I had the cash.......;) :D

I have no doubts that the PCi is no slouch. I was pretty decided on that one but found myself going back to the site and saying "hmmmmm but what about this one!!"

A bit more money for the Plus, but it is only $300 more. I just know now that if I got the PCi, while I would be very happy, I would always have that bug in the back of my mind.

Now, do I get WAF first for the bigger one or do I order and deal with the concequences............. if I ask first she might say no and then it is no........ hmmmmmmmm, is my left one worth $300 to me........ :D

Thanks for the input

The PC+ subs come in the same sizes as the PCi line, so when you say "bigger one" do you mean physical size, or cost?

I guess I was using "bigger" in the sensed of sound. might have been a bad choice of words as I do see the the PCi and PC+ I am looking at are relatively the same size physically.

Thanks for pointing that out

Cheers

Go with the plus line, you won't ever regret having the extra headroom, and if your wife doesn't like it being loud, you can always turn it down, and then crank it back up when she isn't around.

Michael, that's true...unless you go with the 16-46 PC-Plus!

Come on, you know that you want to. Give in to the dark side. :D

GlocksRock,

Yeah, I am pretty confident I will go with the plus line. The wife very much enjoys a good movie with good sound, but I know I like it louder than her, especially when playing XBOX 360 (GTA4 in 2 months) so I will be playing the volume game quite often.

Adam,
That is nasty. On Monday I had decided on the PCi cylinder, by Wednesday I was up to the PC+, now you are trying to get me to the Ultra.

bad very very bad :D

I would love the Ultra, but it is twice my original budget. I am already going to be giving my left one to the wife to get the Plus, I would like to keep the right one for myself :D

Cheers

Glad to hear you are going with the larger sub, and I hate to be the bearer of bad news but GTA4 was delayed...Source.

Hey, now. I just said the 16-46 PC-Plus, not the Ultra. That model is quite a bit cheaper than the Ultra.

Me thinks your subconscious is pushing you to the Ultra, my friend. First, you see "PC-Plus" in my post as "Ultra," and now you're justifying the purchase. A true audioholic, indeed! :D

I stand corrected on the Ultra/16-46 PC-Plus. Trust me, I don't need any help in my wants and desires as an audioholic.

I think I am going to head over to Bloosstriker's "Addicted" post pretty quick as I think there is another AA meeting starting soon :D

I would love to get the Ultra or the 16-46 PC-Plus but then I would have to run power to my tent in the backyard that I would be living in shortly after it arrived. Hmmmmmmm can you imagine what the sound pressures and vibrations would do to the walls of the tent and boy would my neighbours love me!!

If I went for the 20-39PC-Plus Cylinder Subwoofer I would only be at the middle of the road but if I went for the 16-46 PC-Plus I would be at the upper levels of subwoofers, but then there are the Ultras, maybe if I sold my car or some tools from the workshop then the money would be there and I could look at getting one of those.........

My name is Michael and I am an audioholic..........

The first step to knowing you have a problem is admitting it. Okay, I have a problem now lets get on with the upgrades......

:D

Cheers

I would go for the 20-39 PC+ over the 16-46+ if your thing is movies, you will get more output in the frequencies that are most used in HT, but if you are into pipe organ music, then the 16-46 is right up your alley. Believe me, the 20-39 is a very powerful sub, mine plays very low and loud, I'm almost scared to turn it up, but I'm sure I'm not even close to it's limits.

Almost scared? Hmmm, sounds like you need a larger sub. :D

I think two things; (1) the 20-39 PC+ would be an excellent sub, and (2) the 16-46 PC+ would have enough power to be excellent for home theater. The 16-46 might not have quite as much output in the mid-frequencies, but seeing as how the 20-39 has more than enough power (at least in GR's set-up), then the 16-46 should be able to put up a good show.

I was really only kidding around about getting the 16-46. It's definitely more expensive. It will, however, troll the depths if you really want some low frequency action - of course, as GR eluded, there's not much out there that goes that low.

GlocksRock,

I am pretty set on the 20-39 PC+. Everything that I have read and seen says to me that that is the perfect choice for my application, and it is only slightly over my original budget. I am sold. Now just to tell the wife that I will be spending an extra $300 on the sub.

Warpdrv,

I totally agree with you 100%. Unfortunately my wife uses the same quote about the money when I want buy something. Maybe I could just say "But a guy on Audioholics said I should!"

Cheers and I will post when the new sub comes in. Should be ordering over the weekend
