So I was helping dad in the basement when...

I found these:

It's a Nikko NR-815 Receiver in 100% working order and a pair of SAS/Audio Spectrum AS-2s

The Nikko is in 100% working order...all buttons and features work. All meters work, all ports work tuner everything.

The AS2s are also in very good condition. The highs, tweeters and mids all are 100%. The only thing thats wrong is that the foam surrounding the lows (as seen in the pictures, don't know what you exactly call that) is absolutely gone. I temporarily fixed that replacing those tissues in the pictures with two very small foam boxes which work perfectly right now.

So I think I found a decent find....but should I be grasping my find a lot more? Because I don't exactly know what i've uncovered from my basement because neither company I've heard of.

What you guys think of it?

I think it's pretty sweet.

It is pretty sweet to find vintage gear in good working condition.

The foam surrounds for a speaker really shouldn't be a major issue. I would think that just about any surround of the right size could be used to repair the speakers.

the receiver looks well taken cared of ...
I like the analog meters on the upper left of the unit.

Haaa.

I've had my Nikko NR-850 for 20 years now...still works like a champ. Even the remote. They're well constructed and "have" good sound.

Do you know how or where I can get the foam fixed? Because it actually is an issue. I have little foam cubes holding the lows in place because they move a lot and since the foam that held them in place is gone, they shake all over the casing and it sounds horrible.

I used to sell Nikko, and owned an NR-815. I had very good luck with their stuff, unlike some of the more famous companies junk that drove me crazy with out of the box issues, mostly soldering related. I did get very good at finding and fixing bad solder joints though, so I guess all the time I spent fixing them had a purpose other than to annoy me. :D

You can buy kits to replace the surrounds. (it's a very cheap DIY fix) Another alternative is to take the woofers into a local repair shop, and they'll repair them in house for about $40-50.
