using DC power for av...

It seems to me that one of the largest hurdles we have to jump in order to have great home av is electrical noise. Much of that noise is inherent to how we deliver electricity namely using AC. So my question is has any hi end AV companies ever tried to market a purely DC piece of equipment? Ideally would be rechargeable batteries or something very similar. Wouldn't it be GREAT if you could TOTALLY isolate your equipment from the noisy grid?

The power supply converts the AC to DC and most do a pretty good job of rejecting noise. High end amp manufacturers usually recommend that you do not use a 'power conditioner' for that reason.

In addition to what MDS said, There are a few high end preamps and IIRC even amps that do run on battery power.

Here is an example of a Phono Preamp that runs on 16 D cell batteries.

I liked reading that. I guess my thoughts have been somewhat vindicated. Others have thought about it and have tried it.
