Speaker Cable doesn't matter?

Good quality 12 gauge wire works well for me. As far as I am concerned unless you have some specific problem to deal with you do not need to fall for the smoke and mirrors effect you get with alot of cable manufacturers out there. I made that mistake myself when I first set up a system and I learned my lesson by spending more money then I needed to. It won't happen again.

12 gauge seems like overkill unless the runs are really long. I am using 14 gauge and that is probably overkill also. 16 gauge should work perfectly for anything under 25 feet.

I got 200' for a good price and I bi-wire my fronts but it works very well for me. I do have runs of 30' to my rear surrounds. But you are right it would be overkill in some situations.

I just bought some 10awg speaker wire and some GLS Audio Banana Plugs for my 12 foot runs to the mains. (I use Home Depot CL3 for my surrounds as the wires are run through the walls and attic). Now do I need 10awg for these short runs; heck no but you see... I like my wires hidden and there is about 2 inches of wire that can be seen from the binding post to the speaker stand and about 11" from the bottom of the speaker stand to the wall before they "disappear". Now if you have to see some speaker wire, it might as well be big and cool looking. Heck, my old wire is 12 years old anyway so it couldn’t hurt to replace it. Do I expect to hear any difference once I hook it up...You are damn right I do because when I hook up the new wire it will be hooked up to my new MPS-1. (Well maybe I will be able to tell a difference; I am not totally convinced that the amp is going to change anything either).

Oh….why is AcuDefTechGuy always trying to put fish-net stocking on everything?

"Looks cool" is a motivation that I can totally accept, as long as it is not accompanied by delusional claims of "sounds better".:)

You know I am all about the "cool" factor which is difficult when you are "cheap" like me!

Well, even with Blue Jeans Cables, I still feel the need to hide my cables. They look good, but not extremely cool looking---like Kimber Kable or even less expensive cables like Rocketfish (has fish-net):)

So I'm just interested in making my system look cool. Of course, it doesn't sound any better, but just looks cool:D

I consider myself cheap too, that's why if there is a "cheap" alternative to getting some cool cables, I'm there! Fancy braided cables would be my first choice, but apparently it's extremely expensive (Kimber Kable). Fish-nets would be my second choice for cool cables:)
Maybe there's a cool looking aftermarket speaker cable cover or "sock" that I can just "dress" over my cables?:D

I hear you. I was considering just sliding the sheath of a bigger wire over mine but it seemed easier to just buy some bigger stuff (I am pretty lazy too). I would use a "fish net sock" if you want to invent some.

That will be my next project: to find something inexpensive, but extremely cool to fit over my Blue Jeans Cables! Something that will attract the attention of everyone walking into my HT room! Let the search begin:D
