Procinema 600 vs. KEF KHT2005.2

Has anybody compared these side by side? What did you think?

Thanks,

Kef Kht2005

I mentioned this in another thread yesterday (loudspeakers), but I think it's worth mentioning again. As stated, you received a pretty good deal on the receiver. You have $444 left for a speaker system. I would recommend this 5.1 speaker system by Kef: kef.com/KHT/KHT2005.2/home.htm

In addition, this speaker system can be purchased for $450 (with coupon code) at Circuit City's website (in the outlet section). That's 55% off of MSRP. I'm not a big fan of CC, but if you know what you're looking for, good deals can be had. This is an excellent price for the set. Good luck. :)
TIME--

Is there any difference between what CC is selling and the KHT2005.2? The reason I ask is that CC has a model # of KHT2005IIMP. Maybe the "II" = 2?

Hi Dave,

I'm not sure why CC listed the "II"...maybe they could not put ".2" (ie 2005.2) in the product name on their computer systems? Anyhow, I don't believe the name discrep. has anything to do with the product itself. As with any product (purchased new), it should have Kef's packaging, which should have the actual product name (i.e. KHT2005.2 Theatre System) on the box. I hope this helps.

Many people have posted that the sub in this system is not all that they hoped for. Given that my room is 12 x 12, will the KEF sub be sufficient?

To the OP:

I'm pretty new at this as well, but I did see that you wanted to be able to Karaoke with the system. Make sure you have something that can accept the mic inputs. Perhaps a Karaoke DVD player or something similar (See the Pioneer in my sig for an example - althought that model is pretty old now).

The other thing that got me worried is that my original system was the PSB speakers with the Denon listed in my sig. I couldn't figure out why I kept blowing my tweeters. I asked around and was told my multiple sources (stores, and friends) that the reason was because it was the feedback loop when singing karaoke was causing too much distortion. I was told that any decently accurate speakers will blow if there is too much distortion as they are sensitive. People recommended that I get dedicated karaoke speakers (sucked in quality, but able to take a beating.)

I currently run some low end HTIB pioneer speakerse for karaoke and haven't come across any problems. I also noticed that at most karaoke places... whether in Canada or Asia (I love karaoke!), the speakers are nothing like most speakers mentioned here. They are these heavy duty, poor sounding speakers that look ugly.

I'm not sure how much of this advice would be beneficial to you, but before you buy, make sure you ask around about suitability to karaoke. I'd hate to see your speakers damaged!

I bought these today at CC for $499.

Soon to be united with my Onkyo SR605.

What are your suggestions for cable between the receiver ,sub, and satellites. Please realize that I don't want to take out a 2nd mortgage for the cables.

Thanks,

Dave

For your sub cable you can use any old RCA cable. If you want to get something "specifically made" for the situation check out monoprice or bluejeanscables.com both those will also do you well for the rest of your cables as well.

Don't waste money on cables they really won't make a difference.

Speaker placement

Would it be a mistake to mount my front satellites (L,C,&R) to the soffit, about 18" above the TV? The L&R would be in the corners.

The rears could be mounted to the ceiling or on stands, to the sides of a couch.

Thanks,

Dave

I illustrated the floorplan. The circles represent the satellites.
