hearing the difference
I have three sets of towers. Klipsch (2 way, 3 driver with 2x 8" woofers). Yamaha (3 way, 4 driver with 2x 8" woofers). Paradigm (3 way, 5 driver with 3x 6" woofers).
They all sound different from one another. It's a difficult thing to try and explain. Read any speaker review and you'll know what I mean. By themselves, either pair sounds awesome.
The klipsch have more bass than the rest. They easily shake the floor. When you compare them to the Yamaha, you would have to say that they emphasize the bass too much. I can't tell you why, or how, but the Yamaha's are exceptional speakers. I will never part with them. I only wish I had someplace to use them. I only have the towers, no centre. Therefore I can't even use them for movies.

Then again, why not? They are no longer in production, and were off the radar to begin with.
The Paradigms are weird. I feel that they are missing something. I think it has to do with the surrounds. I loved the Klipsch surrounds I had. I think the front firing woofer made all the difference. The Paradigm dipoles I have now seem to be missing something. The Paradigms get awesome reviews. They much be good speakers.
One thing that would contribute to the Yamaha's sound is the cabinet. They are rock solid. It's like knocking on a cement wall. The Klipsch sound hollow, almost cheap.
