I'm thinking of going back my Koi hobby ...

I have always believed that speakers make a big difference. (This difference is not always correlated with price. My current Boston VR2s were substantially less expensive than my previous B&W 705s, and sound better to my ears.)
I was very much a skeptic about electronics. Recently, I bought a new Denon receiver and DVD player on a whim. Now I am a convert, because the improvement was much more obvious than I would have believed possible. The resulting setup has me discovering my entire CD collection all over again, and should keep the upgrade demon at bay for a while.
(Still greater improvement may or may not be possible at a reasonable price. I may well have reached a "plateau" where a big investment is required to achieve anything more.)

I have some audio items I'd like to get, but it's mostly for matching looks (rotel 2 channel pre-amp), smaller subwoofer (SB12 or SPL1200R) and better build quality (monitor audio GS10).

I'm no longer expecting changes in SQ.

So now I am confused...what is so specially about the fish that they cost that much? They probably don't even taste good...;)

Do you do something with the Koi besides watch them swim and try to keep them alive?

Ohh, and Mazer was making fun of your ability to perform in the sack...i.e. "making music"

you see, they're like art pieces, each one is unique. then there's also the organizations that decide what constitutes nice and perfect and what is crappy ... (think Cosmopolitan and other mags to women)

and most importantly, in a spawning of 200,000 koi, you'd be lucky to get 1 as nice as those in the pics.

making music ... first time I heard that. :p

Wow, so you have living art...sounds like a lot of work. I have only ever had one set of speakers I had to feed and it got old so I gave them away. I think I would be scared to buy a fish that costs that much because I know it wouldn't last long in my hands or I would get hungry and seafood is my favorite type.

Mike. MIKE!

You know you're not going anywhere. I see no evidence that you've been through the mandatory 12 step AAH program nor have you been deprogrammed by Ted Patrick.

Besides, you'd miss all us geniuses. Yeah, it's true we're all nuttier than squirrel poop, but we're mostly nice peeps.

:)

Hey - if you find your more of a V nut instead of a A nut in this A/V world, then you have to take into account everything that you haven't done yet...

Do you have more than 1 HD display? Why not?

If you do, then do you have your HD sources matrixed to all the displays you have available? Why not?

Then you have to have solid remote controls for the entire setup so that your grandma can work your system easily. If its to hard for your granny to use, then you have some work to do.

Of course, your front projection setup, and auxilliary front projection setup can always use a bit of tweaking I expect.

I like hobbies. I have several. I don't think I am going to be adding Koi to that list, though.:)

Mike,

You've reached A/V nirvana, you've been exorcised of the marketing demons, you've reached the end of the tunnel, you saw the light, you've reached a plateau where we (mere mortals) can only aspire to, you've seen the bullcrap grabbed it by the horns, thrown it to the floor and came to the sad realization that it all sounds the same!

New hobby: cloning kois.

I've been in the cave too long.

hearing the difference

I have three sets of towers. Klipsch (2 way, 3 driver with 2x 8" woofers). Yamaha (3 way, 4 driver with 2x 8" woofers). Paradigm (3 way, 5 driver with 3x 6" woofers).

They all sound different from one another. It's a difficult thing to try and explain. Read any speaker review and you'll know what I mean. By themselves, either pair sounds awesome.

The klipsch have more bass than the rest. They easily shake the floor. When you compare them to the Yamaha, you would have to say that they emphasize the bass too much. I can't tell you why, or how, but the Yamaha's are exceptional speakers. I will never part with them. I only wish I had someplace to use them. I only have the towers, no centre. Therefore I can't even use them for movies. :( Then again, why not? They are no longer in production, and were off the radar to begin with.

The Paradigms are weird. I feel that they are missing something. I think it has to do with the surrounds. I loved the Klipsch surrounds I had. I think the front firing woofer made all the difference. The Paradigm dipoles I have now seem to be missing something. The Paradigms get awesome reviews. They much be good speakers. :p

One thing that would contribute to the Yamaha's sound is the cabinet. They are rock solid. It's like knocking on a cement wall. The Klipsch sound hollow, almost cheap.

I have a 2-channel system separate from my HT, in a different room. You could use them for that. I tried a center once, returned it to the store, and haven't used one since (that was 6 years ago), so you could also use them for HT in "phantom" mode. If you like them as much as you say, you can surely find some use for them.

Taking a break from ht may be a good idea for you if your no longer expecting to hear any difference,i cant hear any difference in anything with movies so i guess im lucky in that respect but i too tire of audio.

Buy a hot rod & fix it up or a motorcycle & start touring the country,i do both when im sick of audio, lots of good stuff to do my friend.

That is what I want to do with them. However, my house is very small. No room for a simple stereo setup. :( 800 square feet not including the unfinished basement.

Why take a break from HT? Why not enjoy what you have? What would it cost you to sit back and listen to a CD? Watch a movie? With friends and/or family? Nothing! Don't let all those fancy ads sway you. Enjoy life!
