Infinity Crescendo CS-3700 Refoam/Recone

I'm the the process of refoaming two of the 4 woofers in my Infinity speakers. I was successful with the first.. the second just doesn't feel right though.

I refoamed it and pressed around the sides and all are good accept one side where it was scraping, didn't even test just ripped the foam off and started again.. the foam wasn't centered very well on the cone so I figured that was the problem. Now I have the foam glued perfectly to the cone and I'm running into issues as I am doing some testing before glueing to the basket.

The cone feels looser than the first one I did which turned out well.

I can't seem to get inside of the voicecoil to center properly around the magnet (Even using shims)

There was some black substance on the inside of the voicecoil which either I don't know what it was or it was from my sloppy cleaning with the dust cover removed. If the later was the issue I may have gotten sticky substance on the inside of the voicecoil

If a sticky substance is the issue how would you recommend trying to clean? the gap is very small.. maybe .5mm on either side of the voicecoil.

I didn't see any problems with the spider.. what would I look for? I didn't see any rips.

How hard is it to take the cone off of the spider, clean, check, and put back together?

Any other suggestions are certainly welcomed as I'm new to this type of work.

Looks like the basket was bent.. FInally got the magnet/pole plate sep from the basket.. damaged the basket a bit along with the top plate.. voice coil looks a little iffy, but I'm going to inspect with a magnifying glass tomorrow. Got the mag, and pole plates in the oven right now so I can get them apart.

I think I can get it all back together in reasonable condition.. how precise does this stuff have to be... I'd assume within a mm or so. Do most plates and baskets connect with studs/welds? was a bear sawing through it.

Update

So the oven at 450F for 30 minutes didn't do the trick. After further thought separating the Magnet and Pole Plates doesn't need to be done as the spacing around the pole seems to be in good shape. Tonight I will look at the voice coil, but it looks to be in fairly good shape, it will need to be gently cleaned and inspected with a magnifying glass. Then I will straighten the basket, level it and try to weld or braze it back on the plate. I will then glue it and finish my refoam.

Anyone know where I can find instructions or a forum that speaks to Driver building or anything like that?

Either there is no interest here or this forum is dead.

Assuming this repair fails, please see my thread from loudspeakers forum. Looking for replacement advice for the 4 woofers.

Gah, I'm agrivated, my browser ate my post. Anyways, I own a pair of those speakers, I had just sent the woofers to orangecountyspeaker to get repaired. They will refoam for you, and do a full check up on the speaker, as well as fix anyother problems you list. www.speakerrepair.com

Cool, I've got 3 of the 4 refoamed and now need to repair the last one. I'm going to give it a go myself before I send it anywhere. I'm going to try using loctite perm hold adhesive to reattached the basket to the mag. If that doesn't work, I'll pull out the welder and try not to melt the speaker.
