I was wondering what plasma or lcd tv's come with HDMI 1.3 or 1.3a as opposed to 1.1 and what benefits that would have IF you have 1.3 or 1.3a outputting sources. ???

Not sure of the exact models, but several of the new Sony's are HDMI 1.3 to match the PS3 and are deep color compatible.

The just released Toshiba 42/46/52LX177 LCD has HDMI 1.3 and supposedly supports Deep Color and CE-Link for controlling other CE-Link compatible devices via HDMI and the TV's remote control.

I am on the market for a new TV so I have been checking out all of the various LCD brands. Although today I went to CC after work and saw the new Bravia W3000 series lcds with hdmi 1.3 and deep color/24p and was blown away. We were leaning on the tosh 42LX177 before this but the sony just blows it out of the water.

I am not a fan of the new samsungs because of the glossy screen they use which is highly reflective.

I hear lots of positive reports about the Sony Bravia and I realize that a store like Best Buy isn't necessarily a great place to judge its true image quality but so far, to my eyes, the Sonys are rather poor compared to the Sharp, Samsung, and Toshibas I've seen.

Ya so far the best I have seen with my own eyes is Samsung, Panasonic, and Pioneer, with Toshiba and Sharp not far behind. The whole reason I have been obsessed with getting new home theatre system is because I saw a blu-ray playing on a 40 inch samsung and was blown away. Best image I have ever seen on a tv, not a pixel could be dechipered from 2 feet away.

Currently, the Samsung 61 and 65 series are hdmi 1.3a, as will the up-and-coming 71 and 81 series (tentative late august release date).

thanks, now how do u feel about the performance of the 46f and 52f vs the 71 and 81? Any thoughts?

Probably something you have to see, since the technology has to do with back lighting and contrast levels.

Honestly, it's difficult to say at this point because neither the 71 or 81 series are even out yet. Info on both these sets is just beginning to trickle in.

But on paper, the specs on both these models are phenomenal. A lot of people are proclaiming that these sets are the final nails in plasma's coffin. Personally, I doubt it, but we will have to wait and see with our own eyes...

I have just checked into the high end Toshiba Cinema Regza, 46LX177 and 52LX177. The specs are impressive. Deep color, and ClearFrame 120Hz anti-blur technology for clearer motion.

Which Sony?

I've been scouting the DLP scene, best bang for the buck was the 50" 1080p set from Sammy (~$1200 through pricegrabber.) But now all the good retailer's don't have them, so I'm searching again. I think the specs I want are 1080p, Deep Color (I can tell the banding too easily...critical eye) and 50" (fits my stand perfectly.) I don't care really which technology, but price ~$2000 or less.

BTW, I went to HDTV magazine and posted a question about what display's have HDMI 1.3 and/or Deep Color, and the moderator's there replied "There's no content for Deep Color, so you don't need it." Thanks Jack A$$! But I don't plan on buying a TV again in the next 5 years when the content comes out!
