Velodyne SPL1200R

vs.

SVS SB12 Plus

vs.

Velodyne DD12

remember, we're talking about looks ONLY. something you are going to look at everyday when listening to music in front of you WITHOUT the grills

This is where SVS' magnetic grill pays off. I'd rather not look at 4 pins where a grill is supposed to be if I don't want a grill.

I'd go with the SVS in one of the nicer finishes.

(Don't know if it could keep up with the Velo DD-12, though)

You should have included photo's with the grills on for people like me who are too lazy to look them up:)

I'd take The DD if I was going for all out performance.

But realistically I'd take 8 SB-12plus' for the price of 1 DD12.

This thread kind-of reminds me of how ugly my Servo 15 is...

SVS SB12-Plus

I got the SVS SB12-Plus partly because of the great looks with the real wood veneer and small size gave it higher WAF for my living room HT. The rosenut veneer is a pretty good color match to my Onix Ref 1's. The SVS can put out some pretty good SPL for a compact, sealed, 12" sub. For larger rooms, get more than 1 or a larger ported sub.

Tough call, Mike.

The SPL-R has such good lines, but the DD has an solid industrial/artistic look to it, the SVS is fairly simple in appearance - not that it's bad, but of the three, on looks alone, I would much rather have one of the Velodyne's. Personally, I like the SPL-R the best, with the DD in a very close second.

As for the exposed grill pins, I don't think they are a big problem as they add visual interest, and serve to break up an otherwise plain surface.

maybe I should have found a "real" pic of the Piano Gloss SVS. could it have influenced your votes? I mean, the Velos were real pics and the PG SVS was a promo pic.

jcpanny, i'm still waiting for your SB12 review :) ... and pics

no.5, the DD in the above pic might have looked weird with the stilts on ... I got the pic from a site where ANYTHING and EVERYTHING people had were on spikes and stilts. (the speakers, players, equipment, subs)

majorloser, do you mean the wood veneers or piano gloss?

davemcc, I agree with you there, the magnet thingies were a nice touch.
