Yamaha RX-V2700 doesn't see PC's drive D:

My Yammy RX-V2700 talks to my PC media server, but only sees drive C:.

All of the music on my server resides on a RAID 5 array designated drive D:.

I've edited the WinXP registry to change the path of the Shared Music folder to D:\Shared Documents\Shared Music, and have even physically renamed (what was originally) D:\Music to D:\Shared Documents\Shared Music. Yes, I've rebooted.

The original C:\%allusersprofile%\Shared Documents\Shared Music did NOT need to be explicitly shared on the network; the OS implicitly shared it, is my guess—otherwise how does the Yammy see it?

Now that I've changed the CommonMusic path in the registry to D:\Shared Documents\Shared Music, does this subfolder need to be explicitly shared on the network?

Any other tips (spell it all out carefully, please) would be very useful—not only to me, but to others. Clearly, the owner's manual doesn't provide enough depth, and with today's NAS storage systems and 1TB drives, I'm not the only one around who is running into this issue (MP3s stored on separate volume).

If you have simple file sharing enabled (which is the default) then %bootdrive%\Documents and Settings\... is the only thing that is shared.

These CommonMusic paths you mention likely are where Windows Media Connect expects to find music to share (I haven't used it). The receiver doesn't know anything about the drive structure of the computer. If it relies on WMC all it does is communicate over some port with the WMC server and WMC finds the music.

You may have changed one or a few registry entries but there are often many entries that would have to be changed.

You could try turning off simple file sharing and explicitly sharing the D drive (or at least the root of the tree where the music lives) and see if that works.

I have explicitly shared the the folder on D: where the music resides. I've also renamed that folder to Shared Documents\Shared Music.

Then I told WMP to explicitly monitor that folder—getting all excited last night thinking that was what I was missing. Since there are thousands of tracks residing there and it was going to take awhile, I went to bed. This morning I checked the Yamaha and, no, it still doesn't see these tracks.

Once again, I'm counting on someone herein to know something, in that Yamaha's support is S-L-O-W in coming and when they finally do respond, it's usually in, uh, Engrish. To date, their responses are also incomplete. This really bothers me, in that it's a key feature AFAIC, and they should have included some specific info in the manual, or at least have it posted in a FAQ at their website.

Did some Googling on the issue. Here's what I found,

1) There is a firmware upgrade for the network function (to allow it work with WM Player instead of WM Connect)
2) The shared folder should not be firewalled

What's the URL for the firmware upgrade?

If anyone from Yamaha is here, you should include a scroll wheel in your remote for those of us with large media collections. And the lag time on the remote is horrendous.

This is my major complaint with the 2700. There is no page scroll button and it takes forever to scroll through long lists.

I didn't see anyone mention this but just simple file sharing will not show up on the RX-V2700. It's meant to see the media sharing controlled by either Windows Media Player 11 or the seperate Windows Media Connect 2.0 software. Just install WMP11 or WMC 2.0 and then you can add whatever folders you want ot share and that will allow the RX-V2700 to see them.

I finally figured this one out.

Now the problem is the RX-V2700 sees phantom M3U playlists that have either been physically deleted from the PC, or moved to a folder location unknown to WMP. It's weird. Thinking the RX-V2700 cached the playlists, I've physically pulled its plug and waited overnight, hoping that action would flush its cache.

Anyone have any bright ideas as to how to force the RX-V2700 to see the new playlists. located in a folder that is monitored by WMP?

I have tried everything I can think of. I have the latest updates for WMP11 and the latest upgrades for Vista Ultimate. I have adjusted the network settings to the point that I am sharing just about everything on my hardrive. When I go to he Network/USB input on the RX-V2700 it never recognizes the WMP11 and I see no option to add folders to establish a manual network link to the RX-V2700. I know that the adressing is correct in the the network settings for the RX-V2700, but there is no communication link in either a wireless or LAN connection. Any Sugestions.?
