westcott, if you haven't already tried it and you get a chance, I recommend trying La Chouffe. Seems like you like Belgian beers, and that one is my favorite.

It seems every time I go to the local liquor store, the import beer section gets smaller and smaller.

I will try to track down La Chouffe when I go to Spec's main warehouse downtown.

Thanks for the recommendation.

I'm going to our awesome liquor store today called Total Wine!! That's where I got that Austrian Beer for 14% alcohol by volume!! I'll post a few pics of the bottles that they have. They have a place where you can make your own 6 pack with single bottles that's where I got that 14% one!!
Mischa.

My favorite also. I prefer the grande reserve. :)
I like them all (is there really a bad Belgian Ale?). One for every type of mood your in. One of these days I am going to have to get a refrigerator for the garage so I can take a crack at double fermination. The prices of these beers are near $10 a bottle and something has to give. My champagne beer tastes or my audio\video fetish.

I did not think they could even call it beer with that level of alcohol. Are you sure that is not 14 proof?

Yeast dies once the alcohol content gets much above 9 or 10% alcohol in beers. Then they start calling them lambics and they get real sweet and fruity flavored.

What is it called?

I have a Swiss moon shine that is called "Williams Pear". The bottle has a pear in it and it will not go bad as long as you keep the alcohol level above the top of the pear (they sell refills without the pear thank goodness, but not here in the states). I have had it for many, many years and it still is as smooth as the day it was given to me by a friend from Zurich. I will give extra points to the person that rightly answers how the pear is placed in the bottle!!!!

It's grown in there.
You are correct. It is an awesome sight to see these pear orchards with bottles strung all over them for acres!!!

And just how did you know? Have you drank this illustrious elixir?

The internet is a wonderous thing. :D Actually, I was going to guess if they were grown in there because it was the only thing that made sense to me, and then I decided to just Google it. Perhaps that was cheating. I'd like to think of it as simply "confirmation." It's all in the spin...

I have to say, though, that it sure looks tasty even in just a picture. I hope to try it someday.

Here is a pic of that 14% beer! It's called Samichlaus Bier!! I'm going back there on Tuesday!! They have a 21% alcohol beer I dont remember the name of it it's 8.99 a 12oz bottle!! I also saw that pear brandy there it's cool looking but they want like $56 a bottle and it's only a liquor 30 proof so that's not enough!!

It's a Malt. I guess you could still call it a beer in some countries and maybe some states but generally, malt liquors are defined separately from beers because of their high alcohol content.

You can smell the liquor in that Malt. I like it enough to get a single again. I would not buy the 4 pack of it's 15.99 for 4 and 4.49 for 1!! I'll let you know how the 21% one is. I'm going back on Tuesday.
Mischa.

Samuel Smith is one of my favorites. Their Pale Ale is a good "regular" beer. Their Oatmeal Stout is thick, like Guinness, but has a sweetness to it that I was not sure about at first. Now I prefer it to Guinness.

I like this beer too. It is more like a meal than a beer. Samuel Smith makes a lot of good beers I drink.
