What is the best way to hook up these:

yamaha RX-V661
sony KDF-55E2000
sony ps2
toshiba A2

Should I run everything through the receiver and then to the tv?

That should work without a problem. Is there some reason you thought it might not?

I have read that it might be better to run video direct to the tv rather that through the receiver.

Any receiver that alters video is not working properly or wasn't worth your money. In all reality a good receiver should allow the video to pass through unchanged unless it is supposed to do something to the signal in which case you probably want it doing that or you can always turn that feature off.

A/V connections

Check out monprice.com for some good quality inexpensive cables to hook up your new gear. You new Yamaha receiver should have no problem passing 1080i video and will allow you to use a single HDMI connection to the TV.

Post in the forum with your room dimensions, listen preferances, and budget for recommendations on speakers and a sub.

This may not matter but what kind of remote do you have? I only ask because with the 661 you can program “sense” similar to what you might do with a universal remote. You could hook up the Toshiba with Component and Toslink to the 661 and the PS2 with Composite and then do Component to your TV. This way you could leave you TV on Component 1 and just have 1 button to switch between DVD and PS2.

I thought the same thing. Then I got my 661, and I don't see a difference between having the video go straight to the TV or through the 661.

I like this idea but will A2 display 720p over component? Also the ps2 while playing GT4 has a option to use 720p but would not work.Is this because I have it hooked up via composite? As of now I am not yet using the 661.

Thak you all for the help.

Video connections

FYI,
Composite and Svideo are 480i.
Component video is 480p minimum and in some cases the source and display will support 720p or 1080i.
HDMI goes up to 1080p.

Pick up a video cable or adapter for the PS2 to take advantage of 480p and 720p video on your games.

A few questions

Can I hook everything up to the receiver and just hook up one hdmi to the tv?
It will be hd dvd to receiver via hdmi and ps2 to receiver via component.

Will I need a toslink fron the tv to the receiver?
