I just auditioned the x-sub a few weeks ago. No it's not going to rattle your seat. But in a small room it will make a difference with your listening experience with a set of bookshelfs.

I would think most any subwoofer would sound a little dull compaired to the two SVS subs you have.

I know you were only kidding about cylinder subs being for girls. The new PC Ultra may be for female cops. I have an SVS 20-39PCi in my office system. Not to mention a pair of HSU VTF-3HO's plus turbos in my living room, and an X-Sub in my bedroom system, and a Cerwin-Vega HT-12 PWR with remote volume that cost me $378 delivered.

The OP should be fine with an X-Sub.

Ha. I am here. Just taking it all in and doing some research. As of right now (which will prob change two or three times before I make my purchases), I am leaning towards the X-sub for the price, reviews, warranty, recommendations, and appearance. Interestingly the cylinder sub looks like a large 16" x 46" phallus, while the subs you proclaim as "manly" are actually just a "box."

Which one is really more manly?

Just curious - how many of you have gone and bought these high dollar internet direct order speakers without auditioning them before, and not been satisfied with the result?

The speakers I am looking at getting are impossible to audition without having to pay upwards of $250 worth of shipping costs (assuming shipping both ways if returned.) Somewhat risky business for somebody with low income like me.

I am looking at buying a complete 5.1 set of x-ls/x-cs/x-sub over time, starting with the sub and x-ls speakers (need to update my sig to reflect that...) I just hate the thought of not being satisfied with stuff I buy online, so I am always reluctant to do so, and generally buy my stuff locally. But local stores tend to overprice speakers as badly as they overprice cables, unlike e.g. TV's which they make very little profit on.

Like cables, audio equipment tends to fit in that "upsell attachment" category at most stores, so they set the profit margins very high on them.

I want good stuff, but at the same time I probably make less in a year than some of you make in a month That said I have to go for the good bang for your buck items.

ooh, unfortunately, I have no experience with the x-ls speakers or sub.

what I do know is that the brick & mortar prices of speakers is still very negotiable, look for good deals online for the same brand, and ask if the b&m store can match it for an instant cash sale.

I would also recommend saving a little more rather than wanting to upgrade again after awhile ... it will be cheaper in the long run.

when I registered to audioholics some years back, my budget was really really small. I'm glad I waited (and saved) more money and I was able to jump right up to the middle of the ladder of upgrading.

250 bucks shipping is a bit expensive for a $200 sub.

Yeah that kind of caught my eye as well.....

I ordered a 140lb BOX SVS PB12-plus/2 (same as Mazer) as well, and only paid $99.00 for shipping...

I also was very reluctant to buy site unseen/unheard, but with all the great backing of the people who already own them, I took the leap of faith, and never regretted it for a second once I heard/felt it for the first time. In fact, I went out and bought a second sub for a great price... I have always been an audio enthusiast, and now with the web and forums like this, people can congregate and share thoughts and opinions, which makes decisions like buying off the net like that allot more friendly.

I love Movies and when I can sit in my own house and get a better quality tactile response then I get at the Theater, I don't mind paying the entrance fee to get it.

a really nice sub you should look at if you want bang for your buck would be in my opinion is some of the paradigm pdr series. They offer you moderate power and lower price. They are very deep and smooth. I have compared many mid 300-500 dollar subs and this series bang for the buck is great
