setting up my receiver w/ my cable box & dvd

hi! i just got my denon avr 3806 and im in the process of putting the stuff together. i also have a denon 1920 and a motorola dct2224 cable box. im wondering if i can just use one out(HDMI) to the tv? RCA from the cable box and hdmi cable from the dvd to the AVR. or do i need a seperate rca going to the tv for cable? im was trying the whole night to make it work but no luck. this is my first time doing this so i need all the help i can get.

If you have other info pls dont hesitate to share!

You should be able to run an hdmi cable from the cable box to the receiver and a hdmi cable from the dvd player to the receiver. Then you will need to run an hdmi cable from the receiver to the TV.

Don't forget to assign the HDMI inputs to specific settings so the receiver knows that the dvd player is actually connected to whatever you assign it.

Yes, it should. You should use the best video quality connection out of the cable box, what are the options? You mention rca, is this the single composite type (lowest analog) or 3-cable component (highest analog)? Like avaserfi mentioned, if you haven't done so you need to configure the receiver for all this to work properly, starts on pg. 66 of the manual for the video set-up.

my cablebox doesnt have HDMI just single composite(yellow,red,white)yeah it sucks! nyways can i just have one out to the TV through the HDMI monitor out? w/ the dvd(hdmi) and cable(single comp) connected.

Yeah you should be able to run the composite to the receiver and then have the just the hdmi running to the tv. Thats how I have my wii set up.

There really isn't too much to it run the composite wire, remembering what the label is on the receiver, to the receiver and then under video setting on the receiver set whatever location you plugged it into to rca-1 and it should work.

Call your cable provider or look in the manual to make sure you have a handle on all the available outputs.

While your on the phone with your cable company, maybe you could ask them for a new cable box that will bring you out of the

Basic "digital" cable boxes can be quite rudimentary.

Unless you "spend up" for additional features like HD or a built in recorder, the best you get here (via comcast) is a choice of composite video or a modulated RF output.

But, even if you manage to get a receiver that will "upconvert" this to a different type cable, don't expect much of an improvement in the picture.

Actually, by virtue of you saying your TV has an HDMI input, it sounds like you have a HDTV. I'm surprised youi didn't upgrade your cable service.

im cool w/ the picture coz you cant really get nice picture w/ cable unless you get HD package w/c is a waste of money w/ the choices time warner is offering where i live and cant get sat coz our apartment has bad location.

nyways i just need some help on setting up so the sound comes out of the speakers connected on the denon. i think im on the right track coz the dvd is playing on HDMI but no sound when set to AMP. But when set to TV theres sound. BTW the speaker im using right now is just some cheap bookshelf speakers a friend lend to me. my own speaker will be arriving next week its a pair of deftech 7004, clr 2500, and a pair of bpx2's.

also why is it that the set up menu show up when in video monitor out but not on HDMI?
