As the title said I am looking for my first sub. My max is $300. I was looking at x-sub ($200), HSU STF-1 ($270), Velodyne DLS-3500R ($285), Velodye VX-10 ($179). I have a friend that just bought a new sub and was selling his old B&W AS'6 for $50. My room size is ~1500 cubic ft. Any ideas or suggestions will be greatly appreciated.

If your friend will let you, I'd suggest checking out the AS6 in your setup and seeing if you like it. If it fits your needs, then you get a sub for $50.

based purely on specs ... I'd get the x-sub (it's this one right?: http://www.cadencestore.com/ProductCart/pc/viewPrd.asp?idcategory=16&idproduct=307 )
Cadence XSUB-12 does look better than AV123.com X-sub, however has anyone listened to it.

Cant test out the B&W sub for my friend lives in Texas and Im in Colorado.

Good thing about living in Colorado is that AV123 is based out of Longmont Colorado, so if they have a show room I will be able later this week to go and listen to the X-sub.

I'd check our the "B" stock at SVS and Hsu. The Hsu is more likely to have something in your price range. I would think you would want a 10 in or better for your size room unless it's for music only. And unless you a "bass head" a 10 inch should do the trick.

The more I read about cadence the more the just look like white van scam speakers so the XSUB-12 is out.

Hsu didnt have anything at all listed as b-stock.

SVS didnt have any subs in my price range

My second sub was the Cadence, and it's definitely not what van material. It's on par with many entry level subs in the $300 - $400 range. There's a ton of info on that sub here and AVS. I've since upgraded to a SVS Plus/2. I've not heard any sub with a 10" driver fill a room as well as the Cadence except for the SVS PB10. It only goes down to 25Hz, but has one heck of a punch. The amp is very powerful, and the driver rarely bottoms out or distorts. The sub weighs almost 50lbs. HSU's entry level 12" is a much better sub, so if you have the funds - go that route. My argument there is - if you've heard the VTF3-MK3, spend the extra and go that route.

Check this out - War of the Worlds. The 12" driver moves pretty well for only going down to 25Hz.

AV123 X-sub

Wait for the AV123 X-sub to show up on B-stock and buy two of them!
You will get plenty of quality bass down to the upper 20's as opposed to boomy base from most of the larger subs in your price range.

I'd second what Jc said. They do have b-stock sales occasionally at av123. I think most are very happy with what they recieve.
