I've been looking for a good 50" 1080p TV for under $2000.

The only ones I've been able to find are the Samsung LED-DLP 5087 / 5089 for ~$1800.

I am not to picky about LCD/Plasma/DLP. My wife and I don't see RBE. Seating will be from 5'-12', in a 'so so' light controlled room.

Am I missing any other 1080p TV's in that price range?

Thanks.

There are other options

The Panasonic PT-50LCZ70 is 1080p. I've never seen one in action though. It has a new bulb that is supposed to last over 20,000 hours and is warrantied for five years. The TH-50PZ700U 1080p plasma can be found for around $2500. I have seen that and it is beautiful.

The Sony KDS-50A2020 can be found for around $1500. It is a very nice set but does have a standard mercury bulb that will need periodic replacement.

The Mitsubishi WD-52631 is yet another beautiful 1080p set available for around $1,500. It also has a standard mercury bulb.

I will second the TH-50PZ700U Panasonic. Very impressive, indeed... Another benefit is the HDMI 1.3 compatibility, although I'm not sure how important of an issue that is to you. But it could certainly become an issue further on down the road. I know this is $500 above your price specs, but may be well worth it. This is the panel I am seriously considering at this point, but will be waiting until early fall to purchase since I will be out of the country for several months.

Anyways, best of luck to you in your search. I know it can get to be frustrating at some points, but in the end, enjoy your purchase. :)

Also, are there any hopes of Audioholics reviewing this panel, or the 700u line in general?

We went to best buy and looked at a few of their TV's.

-The Mitsubishi 631/731 series looked 'ok'. Their Demo model had some issues displaying a straight line.

-The Samsung LED-DLP 6187 that they had, didnt have a viewing angle my wife liked. I heard the xx89 series is better, but they are hard to find in a B&M.

-Then there was Panasonic. The 700U series plasma's are very impressive. Though pricey. The guy at best buy seemed ready to pricematch anything. So I think we'll try to get the Panasonic TH-50PZ700U down to about $2-$2.5k. Found 1 site that has it for $2300 +$400 for 5yr extended warranty.

1) I would stay as far away as possible from Panasonic projection Tvs i've had the Panasonic rep tell me himself that they are crap. As for the 700u series they are utterly amazing TVs for the price, I will be purchasing hte 58" very soon myself. As for prices on the 50" I work at Best Buy and can tell you there is no way in hell you will get that tv for 2k or even 2,500 for that matter for anything other than an online retailer. Best Buy's cost on hte 50" is a little bit less than 2500

I'm looking at this Panny (700U) & would like to know where BB will be on the price between now & Christmas. I was in a St. Louis store Thursday, & they wanted $2999. I'd already seen the same set for $2399 at Sears.

Lowering Prices

Some new LCD monitors have come out with 1920x1080 (1080p) on a 22" screen. When they're able to fit the same amount of pixels on the same screen is usually indicative of a price drop on the larger screen ones in the near future, so you can probably expect the prices to go down a little bit, although it may not reach all the way up to the 50"'s and larger. Just a thought :)

Forget BB. Amazon.com has the Panasonic TH-50PZ700U 50" 1080p Plasma for $2180 with free shipping and no tax. I believe they also include white glove delivery service in that price.
