I'm hoping eventually to purchase a Pioneer Elite panel later this year.

A little more attainable pricewise is a new receiver (my current Yam is pro logic) I like the look of the Elite receivers as well. I was shocked at the affordability of the top line model. Is this a wise purchase? Should I stick to Yamaha? Another brand? Help!!!!

It all depends on what you want to accomplish, and how much you are willing to spend. There are good models from Yamaha, Denon, Onkyo, Marantz, and Pioneer.

If you are just wanting digital sound, you might want to look into one of these very affordable receivers for now, use what you save for the TV, and then come back down the road for something more substantial.

At under $200 shipped, either is a good choice and will serve you pretty well if you been living with ProLogic all these years.

A couple of steps up would be this one for under $250 shipped:

Sure...let's get a little more serious. I'm mostly using it for movies/TV...no music duties.

I'm running a pair of Boston VR975...and a smaller pair of satellites at the rear...still looking for a centre ch.

Cool.

Must show my ignorance here...never heard of Emotive before. Is it good stuff?

Just curious, how would most of you compare the onkyo 504 with the pioneer 816 with a small room setup and without regard to any video features? (I don't need them.) Also, one thing I really like about the pioneer is how accurate the MCACC setup is, does the onkyo 504 have a similar feature?
