I know there are converters that convert analog to digital...but is there a converter that decodes a audio digital signal into a audio analog signal.

I have a new tv.......all digital.........
I also have a analog home theater

they are not compatable so far..............

any ideas ???

thanks in advance

Bob,

Have you tried the solutions mentioned to you in your previous two threads? Mainly, try turning off the TV speakers to see if it will then output a signal through the digital coax. Starting new threads for the same problem without addressing the proposed solutions in your other threads makes it more difficult to help you, IMO.

What you are looking for is a "DAC" and there are literally hundreds of them.

I'm also wondering what kinda TV you have that is incompatible with your stereo,i do not believe such a TV exists.

I have a feeling that you are doing something wrong within the set up menu of the Receiver or the TV,be advised that just because you plug a component into the TV or stereo does not mean it will work, you have to give the TV a command & the receiver a command,as mentioned above turning off the internal speakers of the TV may be the command needed to send audio signal to the receiver.

Your solution lies within your set up menu's.

The website for Element Electronics shows that every single TV they offer that has a digital audio output also has analog outputs.

We'd know for sure what the issue is if Bob would take the time to actually answer some of the questions that have been asked but I think it's safe to say that the digital audio output doesn't work because he is using basic cable that only has analog audio on its channels.

According to the manual, his TV actually only has a digital (no analog) audio output. I agree that it would be nice if Bob would respond to our comments.

Actually, I have to agree with Adam here. After looking at the owners manual for this TV, it does appear that the only audio out is via a digital coaxial input.

In that case, his ONLY option* is to feed it into a digital coax input on the HT receiver. It matters not what the input is called on the receiver. It could be called satellite, DVD, cable or even Arthur. As long as it has a digital coax input, you should be good to go.

If the HT receiver lacks that, he has no choice but get one that does allow it.

No wonder I never heard of Element TV. Stupid design. Lotsa input options but lousy output but then again, this isn't exactly a deluxe model. More than anything else, with I/O, you get what you pay for.

Feed all your audio from your sources directly to your receiver, not your TV, and use your receiver as an audio selector. You'll be better off that way.

Also, what MDS says is very possible aswell, whily you may have a "digital" tuner, it's very possible that what you are receiving on your basic cable is only analog channels that don't send digital audio. In many areas (mine included), you don't get digital service without stepping up to another level of service and getting one of their digital boxes. The cable companies make the rules, not your TV manufacturer.

I have a fairly upscale Toshiba with all three tuners (NTSC, ATSC and QAM) and I still had to go through their HD cable box for HD digital service. The only digital service I got for free was from my outdoor antenna.

And, Bob, always remember... in most cases you get what you pay for.

* technically, is it really an "option" if there is no other way?

Lol

So you guys agree that the manual says the TV only has a digital audio out. I don't recall Bob ever mentioning the model of the TV and I didn't bother to look for a manual, I only looked at the spec listings and every model also has analog outs. But who cares? There are a number of possibilities and instead of trying our suggestions and getting back with more info that could help troubleshoot the problem he posts thread after thread asking the same question in a different way.

You can't help someone that won't at least try to help himself.

I'd like to ask a question. My car won't start. I'm looking for any and all solutions. Don't bother asking me what type of car, whether I've checked if the battery is charged, if there is voltage at the alternator or any other troubleshooting step - I just want THE answer.

He mentioned it in the first thread (well, at least I think it was the first...I lost track after a while).

Ha! I'd help you now, but I think that I'll wait for the third redundant thread before I pitch in this time. :)

Jump start it:D That is THE answer. :D
If that is not, we'll come up with another one.

Yeah, he mentioned it on one of the several threads he started on this and my curiosity got the better of me.

If you're curious, here ya go.

http://www.elementelectronics.com/pages/products/flx_1910.asp

It's a low-line model and just about the least expensive 19" LCD I've ever seen and has decent input facilities but virtually no output options. It sells for $330 at Circuit City.

He's also posting about this on AudioAsylum as well. INSHO, he should have asked these questions before he bought it in the first place. Sometimes, if somethng seems too good to be true, it is.

ya know, reading the specs and manual, another thing comes to mind.

Well, actually several things.

1) Nowhere does it say it's a stereo TV

2) Nowhere does it say that "coaxial" audio output is digital.

3) Note all I/O lacks in the manual are color coded.

4) That "coaxial" jack is white, not orange, which is a standard for "digital coaxial" I/O. White is a standard for mono (or left channel) audio.

Conclusion - That "coaxial jack might only be mono analog. i.e. while that TV might allow stereo input from external sources, the internal TV tuner may only offer mono sound.

but, what do I know?
