I have an audio-wiring hook-up problem that I cannot identify.
I have a new LCD HDTV and a 5.1 channel audio home theater system that I cannot get any decent audio from.
After reading the manuals and trying a couple of other things, I just can't figure it out ! @#*X#*^ Yikes !
I need any possible solution and certainly any help or idea out there.
Here are the input panels for your review:

In the old days we use to trick cable tv with a vcr for a strong stereo sound and then you were rocking..............anything new tricks like that ???

I'll try any suggestion offered

Who knows... maybe I'm ready for the old hi-fidelity days

Thanks in advance for any suggestion......
P.S. just keep in mind that I don't know nothing about no audio.

Thanks again !!!!!!!!!!

That isn't 'tricking' anything. That is simply using the VCR as the cable tuner and makes no difference whatsoever to the 'quality' of the audio.

What exactly is the problem you have?

I'm gonna guess that you're trying to hook the TV up to the receiver so that you can hear cable programming over the surround sound; if not you'll need to be more specific about exactly what device you're trying to hook up and listen to.

If this is the case, I see no problem why you can't run a Digital Coax cable from the TV's Digital Coax out to the Receiver's Digital Coax in.

Once you do that you just have to make you select the correct input (should be an option on the remote) that you want to listen to. Sorry I couldn't be more specific on this, but the RCA website wasn't letting me download the instruction manual.

If this doesn't help or is completely not what you're trying to do, try and be much more specific on everything you're trying to hook up and I'll do my best to help out.

Thanks Don for tuning in.
As you suggested I tried the coaxial audio out from the tv into the dvd coaxial input and pressed the dvd selector on the front of the receiver without success.
Basically what I'm trying to do is feed the audio from the tv into the receiver.
If I need another device like a dvd player or vcr to accomplish this then that'll be fine
If it's worth noting...new hdtv's produce a digital sound signal and alot of receivers produce analog signals and are generally uncompatible. So, if you could speak to this possibility and any way to circumvent it would be appreciated.

my original reference to the old days of audio tricks like taking a old tv wiith a cable box and a vcr, then introducing stereo sound by plugging the receiver through the vcr to get a decent sound because tv's only had an antenna receptacle.

perhaps there are new ways to overcome any incompatability between digital & analog signals .

I hope this helps explain.......if not........I'll try again.

thanks in avance again !!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Bob,

I suggest experimenting with a couple of things in the audio portion of the TV setup menu. I'm referring the manual at:

http://elementelectronics.com/Manuals/FLX-1910_manual.pdf

This should have come with your TV. The audio portion starts on page 32. First, make sure that you are using the TV as the source (and not a DVD player or other). Keep the coax connected to your RCA system, have the RCA system on and set to the correct input (DVD is what I think you said), and then try these things.

1. Set the "Speaker" option to "Off". Perhaps it won't output through the coax if the speaker is set to "On".
2. If that doesn't work, try setting the "SPDIF Type" to either "PCM" or "Dolby Digital" to see if one or the other works.

I find it curious that the manual specifically recommends against using the TV audio out (i.e. coax) port, even though I'd think that would be the only way to output sound from the TV itself. It may have be just a poorly written paragraph, and I know that they are trying to recommend against routing all of your audio (from your DVD player, satellite receiver, etc.) through the TV.

If that doesn't work, I'd recommend contacting the TV manufacturer. Also, just FYI, a few user reviews of your RCA system on cnet.com mentioned that the system is unacceptably quiet. Perhaps it's the RCA.

The TV should have analog audio outputs too and you can use them if you have to. The TV will do the conversion from digital to analog.

But this stuff isn't exactly plug and play - there are many options and you have to configure things in the setup menu of the TV and the receiver.

Many TVs will not pass audio to their audio outs (analog or digital) if the internal speakers are on and you have to go into the setup menu and turn off the internal speakers.

According to the manual, this one only has the coax digital output.

Agreed! That's the first thing that I'd try (see my post above). Bob, give that a shot and let us know if it works for you
