If they are the ones I'm thinking of, then we're talking the little brothers to the A100's, which places us in the 70's or early 80's. Both of which were excellent speakers. I love vintage.
Early 80's. They lasted until the late 90's (when the foam rotted.) They sounded excellent.

Maybe a little late, but...

...if you didn't jettison 'em, you can get 'em refoamed for a very reasonable price, or less if you do it yourself.

Vintage speakers are great. Along with my more current speakers, I've got Wharfedale W40C's from '67 and JBL L-55's & L-26's from the early 70's, not to mention a pair of Baby Advent II's.

I'm not overly fond of the direction JBL's consumer speakers have taken since then.

For that matter, I'm pretty sure he can "get by" with any speaker he finds there. The trick is finding one that suits one's personal tastes.

From your post, I'm assuming you find the BA's suit your tastes. That's all well and good, and I'm sure they are fine speakers, but you seem to imply they will fit his. That's not an assumption I'm comfortable making. Actually, I don't assume any speakers I like will satisfy anyone else. I can merely suggest one give them a listen.

One should listen and decide but, if one's mind is already made up on a certain speaker, then anything else may well be "settling", which can be costly in the long run. I think I pretty much said this up front.
And, nobody said they weren't.

And, your point is?

You do hold the general population of this board in low regard, don't you? A lot of the effort here is spent overcoming that stigma and accepting products for what they are, not where they are sold. Infinity was well regarded and they were sold by CC, weren't they? Polk and BA are sold by them and I don't see anyone (including me) dissing them, do you? Best Buy sold Athena and people here spoke highly of them, didn't they?

Look, I wanted maggies because I fell in love with their signature sound and if I "settled" for any else to save a few bucks, I would have quickly realized my mistake.

Not if they frequented this board and were apprised of the truth. Only those ignorant of the facts espoused here would hold to that myopic view. And, keep in mind we're talking in context of this board, not the wide world populated by Joe Sixpack and wannabees with pretentions of knowing this stuff.
Listen marky boy calm down ok? All i am saying is that BAs Vr2s are not just some low end "ill just settle for these" type of speakers.

And saving a "few bucks" is a statement held on many different levels...Sometimes you just CANT afford to spend money on speakers and HAVE to settle for other things...I could of bought an M3 but the price is too much and yea i settled for a diff car...im sure ill live. Same way this guy will live if he buys something at CC.

If you wanna continue this lil "debate" PM me if not to each his own.

I agree. To each his own.

Actually, I'm quite calm. It's you that seems to be getting worked up. From your posts here, it sure seems that you feel that "your own" should be "everyone else's" own.

End of discussion.

(BTW, it's "could have", not "could of")

That was my point exactly. They are nice speakers and it is hard to imagine not being happy with them. One would have to spend quite a lot more to do much better.

Old bridge area..you in JC?
Westfield area. I just scored a nice Marantz 2230 for $60 at Englishown last week while wifey was looking at the usual drek. It worked right from the get-go, all the lights worked and the tuner seemed right on as far as dial/station placement. Just had to peel off some stickys and clean the face and tuning dial. Got lucky for once.

CC every once in awhile puts discontinued/floor model equipment on clearance. IIRC, I picked up my Polk system for a song and a dance.

Lets see, I bought the RTi10's for $150 each! - huge 66lb. floor models (these are $1140 msrp towers), the CSi5 center was $250 ($480 - yeah, I overpaid for that one ), FXi3 surrounds were $150 ($419), and RTi4s were $120 ($320). The one floor model needed a grill replaced - it had a small tear in it. Polk shipped one to me for $15. Great company, great service, BTW.

So for $820, I picked up $2360 worth of speakers. Are they the best speakers out there? No. Are they wattage hogs? Yes. Could I dump them on ebay and double my money - close. I did demo the towers, and they sounded much better than what I had, and better than just about anything else locally including Def Tech's that were 3x as much. Just a warning that if you dont' have a high end AVR or separate amps, Polk RTi series are sponges for power. My Denon 3805 was barely enough to push these guys.

And yea these speakers are still rockin out. I love em so far.
