Ok, I've done a lot of reading up on SACD's but I'm still learning. I tried my best to not have to post but I need some direction from you SACD fanatics. I recently learned that the PS3 plays SACD's... Well, I knew it but I didn't know how neat it would be until I got some good audio gear!

For one, I'd like a few SACD's to 'show off' the audio system at the house and also to show off the sub.

So I'm looking for

- SACD demo sampler of some sort with some different sounds, I actually found one online then couldn't find it again.

- SACD of some classical music. Now I'm not a classical music expert, but something you think that I've heard of before, Beethoven/Mozart sort of angle, that I could really test out the 5.1

- SACD of some BASS, be it music, sounds, drums... something HEAVY.

- a recommendation of any SACD's that you think may fit in my show off/test scheme.

Any and all suggestions needed and welcomed. I've ordered Dark Side of The Moon so far.

Thanks!

Nick

Flat out THE BEST SACD I have heard so far is Roxy Music's Avalon.

The multichannel mix is absolutely riveting.

Avalon is excellent, but you I'd caution you that you will want to be familiar with Roxy Music's style before a blind buy. I love the album also, but it is very 80s.

DSotM is an excellent choice.

Melancholy, laid back 80s music, think Morrisey. If you liked 80s electronic music like Morrisey/Smiths, Depeche Mode, The Cure, etc... you will probably like these guys.

Not sure what kind of music you like Nick, but Elton John's 5.1 SACD "Honky Chateau" sounds wonderful to me.

Beck - "Sea Change" is another good sounding SACD, IMO.

I'll bet a dollar you don't see any irony in your post at all.

First things first: This isn't some thread about "name your all-time favorite teeny-bopper cool groovy hip album", it's a thread about SACDs and which ones to get to SHOW OFF YOUR SYSTEM.

As far as multichannel mixes, THE MIX on Avalon is TECHNICALLY SUPERIOR to any other 5.1 mix I have ever heard. End of message. I have no judgement to make about Roxy Music or Brian Ferry or Phil Manzanera or "80s Music" (whatever the hell that's supposed to be).

For you to come along and say "it is very 80s" and then turn around and recommend an album that was made in 1972 and released in the spring of '73 leaves me almost breathless. Amazing.

I have several SACD discs that I use to show off my system. You might try the James Taylor "Hourglass" track 4 "Gaia" for drums that will test the dynamic range of your speakers. Also I have the SACD of Pink Floyd's "Dark Side of the Moon" it is a very good surround mix. For vocals you might try Rebeca Pidgeon's version of "Spanish Harlem". She has a wonderful voice and that track is very well recorded.
