I am going to buy a projector(hd72) soon and have read a bunch of good reviews..would a line scaler be a good investment ? Will they work with any projector.....or should I just invest the money into a better projector? Any info would be appreciated

Some swear by them but it gets expensive and then how well can a projector take advantage of that scaling?

What are you trying to accomplish? Just scaling standard DVDs? hi def dvds are 1080p native so you just need a projector to do that and in time hi def dvds will take over.
Some hi def dvd players do a very good job of up-scaling as do some projectors. So, I would invest in a great projector in your budget and look into hi def:D

The projector has a scaler built-in as do all HDTVs. DVD players and receivers are now also incorporating scalers (usually described as 'upconversion' which is a generic term that actually means different things in different contexts).

Unless you spend big bucks on an excellent outboard scaler/video processor that is definitely better than the one in the PJ you aren't likely to notice any significant improvement.

I'd get the PJ and get everything set up and then consider an outboard scaler only if you feel things aren't quite as good as you'd like.

I have a yamaha rx-v2600 which does scale all sources connected. I forgot to mention this but I am assumng a scaler would be worthless if I am going to run everything through the reciever >>>??

The question is, if all components in the chain have a scaling feature, which one to use? Answer: The one that does the best job! Follow MDS's advice.
