Axiom Audio M60v2 vs RBH MC-6CT

Athena Micra 6

I want to add two floorstanding speakers to my system. Any advice on which of those two would be better, or if neither of those two, any other suggestions?

I mainly listen to electronic music, classical, and watch action movies on it.

I'm new at this, so any advice would be much appreciated.

Thanks!

I would go with Axiom. The MC-6CT's are towards the bottom of RBH's offerings and personally I would rather go with the M60's since they're towards the top of Axiom's line-up. Personally, I wouldn't bother with RBH unless you're gonna go all the way and get the signature series. Also, the Axioms look much nicer. You also might want to consider whether your receiver can power these speakers.

No way in the world to know with auditioning them both. Buy both and return the loser. The best plan actually, is to audition every tower in your price range, that is within a reasonable driving distance to broaden your options.

New speakers

My advice is to buy the matching center channel with your new mains. That little Athena center channel won't be able to keep up with the floorstanders.

Another upgrade path might be bookshelf mains (Axiom M22's or Onix X-LS), matching center channel, and a new sub. The Athenas should be fine for the surrounds.

If you do go with floorstanders like the M60s, run them as large and disconnect the Athena sub.

Actually Tom has a pair of RBH TK Towers in for review which are a bit cheaper than the MC Towers and he is really digging them. He also has the Axiom M60V2's as his reference speakers. Stay tuned for his review...

PS. I read in a former post that its better to go with company X's top end product over Company Y's bottom end product. This is NOT always the case and don't let price fool you either otherwise everyone would be buying Bose 901's :)

thanks gene. hopefully tom compares the sound characteristics of both the speakers in that review. since i live in a dead town its hard for me to audition stuff and i rely on reviews.

M60s are 8 ohm speakers. Virtually any receiver can push them. The M80s are the 4 ohm speakers that take a stronger receiver.

I own the M60s and I'm very satisfied.

I will second the recommendation to audition all speakers that fit your budget. Better still, if possible audition the top contenders in your home.

I to am happy with my M60's.

I have the identical system as AGARWALRO (except I have the Denon 3805 vs 3806) and I second that the M60's are great speakers. And as a previous poster noted, make sure the center speaker is a match.

Its just that there are numerous number of axiom reviews on the internet but no owner reviews of the rbh - mc 6 ct towers..

I will definitely audition before i go ahead and buy them..

I am also in a dilemma with the Axiom M60 and Boston Acoustics VR3. I just got the Axioms this week but I went and listened to the Bostons at a store and thought they sounded as good. I thought the Bostons had a better sound stage but a bit less though tighter bass. These factors are related to speaker placement so I wonder if the VR3 would sound any better in my home. I use a Rotel RSX 1057 receiver.
