Help with a dipole speaker... Need creative ideas

My setup is laid out in a corner loaded manner, and I have a corner behind me... see pics.

Now I was thinking about putting in that corner behind me a single Dipole speaker that would fill in the rear area... That way it would fire in both directions towards the rear of my couch... Where the Tall Plant is located.

I have a full paradigm studio setup and looking at the ADP's they are kind of side firing, and I can get those each... but looking at the rear surround rockets they have more of a outward directional build.... and have to buy in a pair.

What do you think of the idea of putting a speaker back in the corner like that for rear surround? Would one speaker design work better then the other...?
Are there any other di-pole/bi-pole brands that one would recommend for a corner layout scenario.

Thanks

Warp

First off, nice house. I really like your "melty" clock.

I have VRX's, which fire in 2 directions. What you are suggesting sounds like an interesting alternative. I guess having one rear speaker is better than none. But what about when you have surround information that just goes to one speaker? I would think that you would be missing out on some sound.

But, it's better than nothing. Why can't you put one speaker there, and another one on the wall to the left?

Thanks, the DALI Clock is an amazing discussion piece.... gift from an ex...

Well it seems that there isn't alot of 7.1 audio out there, just matrixed sound from the 5.1 surrounds, and they do have setups for 6.1 setup. I assume that when they talk about 6.1 that they are just working with a single rear surround... and the more I thought about it, why not work with a single di-pole kind of speaker, which would enhance the emersion of sound.

Pro's or cons of this thought process...? Am I totally off here..

Hey Man :)

1.) That clock is soooo catchy :)

2.) I thought you didn't like the dipole speakers... can't you put two 20s back there (which would rock)?

3.) The Paradigms ADPs are angled at 45 degrees (I believe).. why would that be bad?

I can't believe how much more you are wanting to add to your system.. I will never be able to catch up j/k :)

Remember that’s Dalí... not to be confused with DALI, but I digress. ;)

And you’re right, Warp; 6.1 adds a rear center channel, and 7.1 is nonexistent for DVD's.
I like the idea of using a bipolar or dipole speaker for the rear channel; a Infinity BETA ES250 may be another product to consider, as it can be used as two channels.

Is this for a 5.1ish or 6.1 setup?

Hahahah I like both the Dali/DALI presentations... I would give my left testical (seeing as I won't be needing it anymore) for a full surround of Helicon 800's, those are beautiful looking...

That Infinity Beta Looks like a good idea...

Anywho.... in the current configuration, I have a 5.1 setup, and I was just thinking that I wanted to do a 6.1.... Looking at the manual for the Pioneer Elite 81, it doesn't show how to connect a single rear surround. Any ideas here..?

Hey Babel, the Paradigm ADP is almost side firing, not 45 degree, like the Infinity, or the Rockets... I like the selectability of using that Beta to use it as dual speakers... realistically I don't need alot of product back there, as there is hardly all that much info going to the surround backs.

Just looking at Paradigm's website about surround placemen, they show a single rear surround scenario there.... http://www.paradigm.com/en/paradigm/literature/surrounds.php (figure 4)

Babel, I don't dislike the ADP's, but I am looking for a solution for a rear surround, My buddy has been nagging me about not having any rear speakers... Some people like them, some don't... I have always liked direct radiating speakers for surround, but this is a different situation being corner loading and all... I really don't want to buy another set of huge 20's for my rears, I just don't think it to be necessary, where with the reflecting walls would lend itself quite well here for those.
ADP's could work great in a rectangular room, but not this room. But 1 rear corner loaded could be quite cool...

The way I look at it, with a single ADP, firing from a corner position, I have that forward firing 8" and side firing mid & tweet, which would reflect off the walls to help achieve more sound dispersion... What do you guys think...?
Plus they sonically match all the rest of my speakers....
The dealer lists them as sold as each...

Seems like one speaker in the corner should work pretty well.

But 7.1 content should be coming pretty soon. You could get it set up and be ready for it when it comes. Plus if you've got a PS 3, you could just content yourself with Resistance Fall of Man for now.
