Is there a product that can receive IR signals from a remote and send the appropriate signals to the right component in my home theater system?

TIA

http://www.universalremote.com is the site for Universal Remote Control which makes the Home Theater Master remotes that I use and prefer. The new lineup called RF10/20/30 come with the RF basestation, unlike the higher models where the basestation is separate. That series will meet the needs of most systems with fewer than 10 devices. Buy them from Amazon.com though - you can get the whole package for a little over $100 that way.

The cheapest online stores for the better remotes are:
http://www.surfremotecontrol.com
http://www.bluedo.com (I've bought from bluedo before)

another question abut RF10

Hi: I have a projector mounted on the celing and rest of the components (receiver, DVD player and Satellite box) in the front. If I use RF10 remote control pointed to my equipment in front, will it turn the Projector on since it's on the ceiling. In other words will the RF or IR commands emitted from the remote be sent in all directions?

Thanks
Ray

Terk used to make a leapfrog IR extender, it works really well, but I'm not sure if they make them anymore. If you can find one, they are inexpensive, and work really well... they may have just replaced it with something else though.

The RF goes everywhere so you don't need to point the remote at anything. However, the RF doesn't control the components directly. The basestation catches the RF and retransmits IR - either from the front blaster or through the emitter wires attached to it.

You will need to position the basestation where there is direct line of sight to the projector or use the emitters and run the emitter near the projector. The HTM remotes are pretty powerful so it may work fine if the basestation is near the front of the room.

All great suggestons. One caveat, though.

These relay devices don't differentiate between components. All signals transmitted will be "visible" by all components on the receiving end.

While this might sounds petty, if you have conflicting IR signals (i.e, the same button/command does different things on two units), that problem will not be solved.

If this is not an issue, ignore this post. All will work fine.

I know URC has some models that allow specific routing of RF signals to specific ports on their RF receiver so if you do have two identical devices, like 2 Motorola cable boxes, they can be controlled separately from two different remotes. I'm not sure if the remotes have to be different or exactly what the deal is.

I personally use Crestron, which is phenomenal and a clear step ahead of most other stuff - at a premium of course.

But, if all you need is a basic universal remote and a RF receiver, then I would go with one of the Universal Remote Control products already mentioned or one of your own choosing - they are all really good.
