Hello Members, This is my 1st post so cut me a little newbie slack.

Just got the home audio bug, mainly because I'm having problems with the Logitech Z-5450 system I have powering my 50inch Samsung DLP.

I need 4 HDMI ports and all I could find was the Pioneer Elite 84... which was backordered, so I ended up with the Marantz SR-8001 which should be here this week.

The room I have is about 20x25 with the DLP caddy cornered towards the front of the living room. I want jump right in and get a fairly fat 5.1 system mostly for some HD movies (Bluray & HD-DVD in my house) but also for LOUD music. I was originally going with some Polk Audio RTi8's (maybe RTi10's... maybe) but then came across Aperion Audio and their 633-T and was intruiged and surprised at the reviews. So here's my question, and a couple other important yet not as important questions as the 1st. THANK YOU.

1. Does anyone have any experience/advice on what they think is a better speaker ? experience with either of these offerings ?

2. I'm going with in-wall satellites in which I don't think I'll have much of a problem figuring it out... But what's a 'top' SUB ? CENTER ? I like both Polk & Aperion for these as well.

3. Am I totally off-base ?... Should I be looking at OTHER manufacturers ?

Any help of course, if much appreciated. And if anyone's got their idea of a 'killer system' please write back. I'd love to hear.

Thank you,

Nicholas

HT speakers

Nick,
Sounds like you are putting together a great system. Pick a budget for your 5.1 speakers and sub and check out local dealers and internet direct companies.

Check out the Onix Rocket speakers from AV123 for a great HT speaker that can play soud. They don't offer in-walls, but their dipole speakers can hang on the wall or you could use stands for rear bookshelf speakers. The MFW-15 sub (15" woofer, ported) will be out soon and a couple of these would probably do the trick for your large room. SVS and HSU also make great subs.

Another good option might be the Klipsch reference series. The horn loaded tweaters give them a perticularly high sensitivity (= plays loud with less power).

Thanks for the input JC...

I liked the AV123 products yet one requirement I do have is black finish... One of the reasons I like the Aperion 633-T's and other products because they have a black piano gloss paint like my Samsung DLP. Not crazy about Klipsch.

And a huge problem I have is that we don't really have any high-end audio spots in Tallahassee to 'demo' products. During my lunch break today I went over to BestBuy, they had junk... CircuitCity, nobody to help and a few older model subs and Polk Monitor 70's, I think, that I didn't want anyway. So, the internet & forums are my only resource.

I may pull the trigger on the Aperion 633-T's and some other of their products to keep it the same... don't know yet. I'm wondering if they make a kickstand for the center like Polk does to keep it on TOP of the TV/DLP. I wonder if there's a generic one ?

THANKS AGAIN~~

500 bucks per speaker puts you in a good category; lots of good speakers can be found around your price.

PSB image series
Paradigm studio series
Monitor Audio silver series
B&W 600 series
Wharfedale Diamond series
KEF IQ series

It is very difficult to pick out speakers you like without hearing them; so make sure whichever one you chose has a good return policy. I think the Aperion 633 will be great but I am just going by what a guy that has them told me; I have never went over and listened to them.

Good luck.

Greg,

Yeah, I'm thinking I can come away with a decent system. I actually just pulled the trigger... I didn't get too many responses so I figured what the heck.

I got the 633-T's, S-12, 632-IW, and my biggest problem the 634-VAC.

I'm dumbfounded as to how I'm going to get this mounted on top of my Samsung DLP ?? But... I had to have it... LOL. I saw those Omnimount's but they only support 30 lbs and the 634-VAC is just about 40 lbs. Should I just buy 2 ??

And a shelf mount behind the TV is out of the question because the system is rather caddy-cornered.

Hmm.....

Thanks again and if you have any ideas please shoot!

I think you will quite enjoy that system. I have no idea what to do about your center; I am in the same boat. We have been looking for a plasma stand that looks like nice furniture and will hold my giant center for 3 months now! I may just have to have one built.

I'm thinking of just getting 2 of the OmniMount's and being done with it. 2 of them would be 38 inches long so I'd have a little room left over on either side but you wouldn't be able to tell because it's all black anyways. That's about the best bet at this point.

Yes, the setup should be decent, I'm excited. I have to wait until 5/18/07 for them to ship because of Aperion having a sever backorder on these speakers due to 'overwhelminng response' as it was put to me.

How big is your center ? The Aperion is 8.5" H x 25" W x 11" D and almost 40 pounds. Ouch. But they say it sounds good, and I'm more about quality than asthetics eh ?

Mounting center channel

Some people get sturdy stands that attach to the wall, just above your TV (so it looks like it is floating). Basically you can find blank stands that are designed to hold small TVs on a wall; they have a short arm with a wide shelf. These are designed to hold CRT TVs so the weight of your speaker should be no problem.

Sounds nice but first off, I wrote this above:

"...And a shelf mount behind the TV is out of the question because the system is rather caddy-cornered..."

And second, I don't think that would really look that good and it seems like it would sit too far back from the wall. Even if it wasn't, the Mrs. wouldn't have it. She'd flip if she knew how much all of this equipment was. ;)

With the UPS & all of the wiring, there's absolutely no room for the stand.

I just ordered the 2 Omnimounts from Amazon, $60 shipped, 2-day. 2 stands will hold 60 pounds and there's plenty of room behind the Samsung DLP for 2 stands... (Being a computer guy at heart and for my real job...lol... I buy a lot online and I was wondering if you guys heard about this Amazon pay $80 for the year and free 2-day shipping on everything you order. Sounds like a lot to some but it really isn't. I'll eat up $80 worth of shipping around XMAS time alone. Just a shout out to those who haven't seen the promotion.)

Thanks everyone for your help. I really think I'm going to enjoy this Aperion system, the dude I spoke with spent about 40 minutes answering every question I had from speaker gauge to bi-wiring without pressure or hesitation and that went a long way.

My center is 9-1/2 in x 26-1/2 in x 13 in and 45lbs and it's kind-of ugly but boy does it sound good!
