A/V receiver to amp question

 I have a Yamaha RX-V2700 A/V receiver. I want to use its zone 2, connected to a separate amp, the output of which is directed to a Niles Audio speaker selector. The idea is to be able to direct the Yamaha's zone 2 output to any one of four (4) other speaker pairs in remote locations.

For the second amp (zone 2), I want to use an old Sony STR-D1011S receiver I have laying around that's not doing much of anything. The problem is, the Sony doesn't have separate preamp IN/OUT connectors on its rear panel. Could I bring the zone 2 signal from the Yamaha into some other input on the Sony, such as its CD input, and just leave the Sony in CD mode?

Yep, you can use any input of your choosing other than Phono.

if i understand this right, you want to use the high level output,s from the first reciever, connect it to a sperate amp, then to a selector to power the 4 other speakers-well you cant do that if you put high level reciever output,s to a power amp you will blow it.you need somthing like a carver z-1 coupler {$25 ebay} it hooks up to the speaker termanel,s and drop,s the voltage to use as low level that you can use as input,s.

Yamaha Zone 2

While the Yamaha has a powered Zone 2 feature, it also has line level (Red/White RCA connector) Zone 2 outputs. This is the connection you would use to connect to an external amp, or in this case, the sony receiver.
