Yes, but in the future it won't likely do it. The ability of it to output over component will be ultimately limited by the movies themselves. When they start putting more advanced copyright protection on the discs you will not be able to get 1080i over component you will be limited to 480p.

Actually, if and when the HD DVD downrez takes place (using Component), the resolution will be 540p.

In the meantime, if one playback a commercial SD DVD, with component connection, the resolution will be downrezed to 480p.
