Needing a sub.

I'm currently in the market for a subwoofer to add to my little home theater...using Paradigm Studio 40 v3's with a Marantz SR7001 for power. What's my best bet for both music and theater.

you might want to increase your sub budget for a room that size...
There aren't alot of subs that will provide a good punch or a decent low hitting responce in that price range....

It is a larger sub an requires a little time to put together (doesn't take a braniac though). So long as you wait to plug the sub in until you are finished putting together it should be easy as pie. This is probably one of the best value subs in this price range.

BIC has offerings that may also be a of interest.

Room is currently 14x20 8' ceilings...wood floors with carpeting. Currently i'm looking for something that can add what the studio 40's are missing...maybe later on turn it inito a 5.1 if/when i move it into the family room. Budget...none really...i DO want to get my moneys worth of course.

Well, there's a whole range of choices spanning a HUGE range in price. The things you'll need to decide is how much you're willing to spend (budgets ALWAYS get blown), do I want something in a particular wood finish, do you have a size constraint, what type of material you normally listen to (mostly movies or music), etc........

There is the "internet direct" manufacturers like:

Ok.. fine.. I will start my own. It just seems that there a a lot of threads w/ "what sub should I get" in the title. I thought it would be easier and more effiecent to use a thread that is already started. Then all of us knobs could benefit from the information given. Didn't realize everyone is going to get all emotional about it.

I don't mind jack...if more people can get the info they are looking for from the same threads, the better. Mine is basically because I haven't found any information on matching anything BESIDES paradigm subs with the studio series. I personally thing that the paradigms are a bit overpriced...but then again. what isn't in the high end market.

Many people think that HSU is a "musical" sub that also handles movies well. You may look at their offerings.

You are working in different budget brackets, so your question is different from the OP. Given that, I have made the best suggestion that I can for your budget. The Parts Express 15" probably gives you the best value. All you have to do is put the woofer and the amp in the enclosure along with few other little side items and it is ready to go. Refer to my earlier post in this thread for the link.

Hey cool... someone without budget constraints... this doesn't happen very often...
I thought about this sub when you said 1 cubic FT... size... Small but powerful.

I think maybe one of the best sub's out there in the $2K range is a Paradigm Servo 15 V2 MSRP is $2,200/US. www.paradigm.com
Its supposed to be quite a musical sub...

I actually think i'm leaning towards the ultracube 10, I checked out the spl-1000 but my local shop said that they had had a run of high failure rates on the velodynes over the last couple of years and were dropping them. Cooled me off on that a bit.

Well if your looking to add some LFE deep bass to your system for HT, you will be missing out on some good low end effects with a 10" sub...
If the Ultracube is what your after, you might want to consider the 12".

Otherwise a good musical sub with some punch the SVS SB12 Plus is great bang for your buck at $699.00
