since I'm not familiar with Denon receivers, which Denon receiver is around 500 bucks or cheaper? I want to use it for a 2 channel setup - I need the LFE out and bass crossover.

which base model has pre-outs?

I'm bored with HK and Yamaha ... and would never buy Onkyo because the local importer is a D*ck.

The 2307 is a great piece for the money, however list price is 799. You can get the distribution model (identical piece) for 699. You may find it cheaper online but not from an authorized retailer. This is a great piece to build off and has preouts for all channels.

For $650 US, you can get the Outlaw RR2150 which has everything you need and will likely have better sound than a $500 Denon m/c receiver. It is more, but I'd do it. Otherwise, I'd be looking at the H/K stereo receivers which do have a sub pre-out (but no built in x-over).

A few years ago I made an impulse purchased of a new in box Denon 1705 for $225 on close out at Tweeter. Since then it's been a temporary replacement for the main system when the Onkyo died and now does duty as a modest 2.1 system in the den. It does not have pre outs (I don't think), but what great little receiver! So, my experience with a lower level Denon receiver is very positive.

Jon Baker, I guess the 2307 won't fly with the Mrs. then. I will ask about the 2107 from my dealer.

John, I actually looked at the Outlaw last night, but it said "110v only" :(
and just last night, I asked the wife about a 700+ Denon ... she said no.
re: HK3480 ... I already have that unit, and the lack of bass management would have been ok if I had a subwoofer that had an internal crossover. the Axiom EP500 only has one RCA input and NO high pass output.

I also did look at the Denon PMA-700 int. amp. -< while it scores 100 on aesthetics (and fits the budget - 500 bucks) the fact that it doesn't have the bass management I need sucks for me.

Nick, thanks, I will have to go down deeper in the Denon line to fit my budget :)

looking at the denon 1907 ...
it only says automatic config., does that mean I can't manually change it's automatic settings?

what are your opinions on the 1907 vs. Yammy 659?

also considering:
Anthem TLP1

I was looking over the 1907 vs. yammy 659:
it would seem that these two are the match in price and features ...
but I see the yammy has a 12v trigger out, and "pure direct"

what feature does this denon have over the yammy 659?

I'm basically down to the Anthem TLP-1 vs. Denon AVR-1907

votes anyone?

Some people think preamp is more important than power amp in terms of how it affects sound quality. To me, for line level source, the power amp is more important.
