Athena new LS speaker line. Verdict?

Looks like Athena replaced the AS line with the LS. These speakers look a lot like Energy speakers I've seen and I wouldn't doubt they use the same drivers.

Anyways, what's the verdict on these speakers? They've been available at Future Shop in Canada for a few months now.

I would love to hear them, but they are only available online where I live.

I would assume they use the same exact drivers as the Energy speakers. They are made by the same company, they are in the same price range, and have very similar cabinet designs.

I very much liked the sound of the LS line. The LS 500 retail for about $800.00 CDN and IMO, musically they sounded better then the other speakers I compared them too.:)

Thanks Billy. Could you go into detail about which other speakers you compared them to? I assume this was at Future Shop. In that case, how did the 500b stack up to RTi8s?

Klipsch Aquisition

I haven't read or heard anything other than the news piece on this website about the Klipsch aquisition of API (parent of Athena, Energy & Mirage). I wonder how this will affect their marketing programs since Klipsch and Athena are both sold in Best Buy. I've enjoyed my Audition Series (F1,B1,C1) for a couple of years. The LS series looks very impressive.

Here is some News

I picked up at the AVS forum from one of the members.

I (accidentally) happened to come across this interview/article, from Stereophile Magazine, on John Tchilinguirian, VP of Energy Speaker Product Engineering and Development (from 1994). It's very interesting I thought because, at that time, they had just completed development of the first generation of the Veritas line. I found this article fasinating in that it gives you details on the reality on what's involved creating popular speaker products that we all know and use...........
http://www.stereophile.com/interviews/552/index.html

The rumor is (supposedly) that John Tchilinguirian has left Energy (API), maybe as a result of the Klipsch take-over of API?

Hey Bluesmoke! You are correct it was a future shop and they sounded better for music less forward, then again this is purely subjective. ;)
