Laptop connected DVI - HDMI to HDTV???

Hi everyone!

I'm trying to view some high quality pictures and possibly PC games from my laptop to my JVC HDTV. The JVC has a d-sub 15 pin input for a PC but it only runs on 800x600, and 1024x768@60hz. I want to connect using the DVI output on my laptop to try to get higher resolution than 1024x768:D .
Does anyone know if I connect my laptop's DVI port to the HDMI input on my JVC, will I be able to accomplish this, or am I stuck using the d-sub (analog) input:eek: ?

Thanks!

There are 3 flavors of DVI: DVI-A (analog), DVI-D (digital), and DVI-I (both). The laptop most likely uses DVI-D and should work with a DVI->HDMI adapter to the TV.

Whether or not the laptop's graphics card can be configured to a resolution and refresh rate that the TV would support is another question.

Please remember - your TV has a fixed native screen size. It may be 1365x768, or 1280x720, or 1920x1080. If the later, then you may be able to feed 1920x1080 from the PC to the display through the VGA or the DVI->HDMI connection.

It most likely ONLY operates at 60hz though so don't think about changing that.

I thank you both for your input.

I've been doing a little reading my self, and my set handles 1024x768@60hz through the d-sub (PC input), How ever it uses only 60% of the screen, and the resolution low as you can see. It will not work with any other resolution higher than that. Now the DVI is another story, I have a DELL XPS M170 which has a GeForce7800GTX GO graphics adapter (it's about 15 months old). At the moment I don't know what type of DVI output I have but, I do know that trough my DVI to HDMI cable I picket up at wall-mart yesterday I get no picture regardless of resolution. My laptops video driver interface recognizes and IDs the TV set properly, and it gives me the options of output 480i, 480p, 720i, 720p, and 1080i. It does not matter which of these settings I use, the JVC tells me it is not receiving and input. It does not see it at all. I know the DVI works because I'm currently using a 20" flat panel on it.

I do know that this JVC model up converts anything connected trough the HDMI inputs to 1080p automatically. Whit out talking to JVC tech support, I'm stuck.

I found the information below inNVIDIA's website about my graphics adapter:
High-Quality Scaling
Allows for upscaling of a low-resolution video to HDTV resolutions (up to 1080), while maintaining a clear, clean image. Also allows for downscaling videos, including high definition, without experiencing any annoying flicker, while preserving image detail.

After reading the above, will is be a restriction onmy set? I did read a user manual for a Smasung DLP set and is specificly said, "not to connect a PC trough DVT-HDMI, if you do so you'll get a balck screen". I counldn't find anythig like that in my user's manual.

Any suggestions anyone:eek: .

Suggestions? It sounds to me like you can't get there from here.

The website seems fairly clear on this as it describes your symptoms exactly, but perhaps a call to their customer service/support might turn up something more to your liking.

Then again, maybe it won't.
