So I went to a store and bought "Acoustic Research Pro II Speaker Cable", and the guy told me that most speakers don't need banana plugs. Is this true? Can I really just take out the wire and clip it to the clips on the speakers/ receiver/ center channel? I couldn't believe my ears, cause if thats true I'll be saving mucho dinero. Thanks!

If you look at the lower level Audioholics "recommended systems" you'll see that they'll say "upgrade when you see fit to terminated speaker cables". Meaning - use bare wire until you feel like adding banana plugs/lugs.

Except for the real cheapies, the sub is connected to the receiver by a single sub "pre-out" located on the back of the receiver. The receiver is connected to the sub by plain old every day RCA cable. Radio Shack or any of the CC and BB should carry them. Get the least expensive one you can that is shielded. Or, you may have a generic RCA cable floating around the house from previous setups and if so, try that first. If there is no hum, you are good to go.

Why would you pay for cables with banana plugs attachedd only to cut thenm off?

Besides, as Nick said, all a sub needs with most HT receivers is a single shielded interconnect with RCA plugs on the ends. (and yes, you DO need those RCA plugs)

I hope you didn't cut the ends off, have all packing materials andthe receipt. Get yer money back and buty an interconnect ...from a different store.

They either don't know what they are talking about or they are lying through their teeth in order to suck your money outta yer pockets.
