Here is my renovated attic that my dad and I did ourselves. I tore out everything and redid the walls, ceilings, floors and everything in between

I really like it, and it makes an excellent bedroom/music place.

The equipment list is modest, just 2-channel right now.

Yes, that is 3\4" plywood. I sanded it, filled the seams with putty, sanded some more, and put about 3 coats of polyurathane on it. It was cost effective and looks great to me, so I am glad you like it as well.

And I liked that "Blown Away" picture as well

Believe it or not that plywood was also used as the construction floor when we were doing all the dirty work. Some of the panels were so dirty that you couldn't even see the grain! It to a lot of scrubbing, sanding and more scrubbing to get that soot off.

Then, I employed my secret weapon: the Swiffer Sander! I taped a piece of 200 grit paper and made tons of rounds sanding. It made the whole finish, sand, finish, sand thing much easier

Ah yes, I am working on plans for stands now. I'm not sure if I am going to just build a big wood box, or if I am going to do the industrial metal pipe thing. Decisions decisions..

Count me in as another fan of that plywood flooring job. Spectacular! Heck, the whole thing looks great - great work on the drywall, especially the arch work and architectural detailing.

I'd second the call for an area rug or two . I'd leave the space for pure music, and maybe add a fridge and small bar for necessities .

I really like the simplicity and open design of the metal pipe and flange do it yourself design. It is so easy. Your local home center will even cut the pipe and thread it for you to length. And, it provides a more open area around the speaker which is always a good thing.

Thanks! I think that it will remain purely music for a while, since I will have to save up for a TV (or hope someone upgrades and snag their old one) There is a big area rug on the other side of the room, but I need one for the music side as well. I would love a fridge too, sigh...

Yeah, I was thinking the same thing. I might even try to get a hold of some more fittings when I order the railing pipe from MetPipe.
I already have a box of fittings, I just need the pipe.

Update

Alright, I have finished building my IB subwoofer and let me tell you... WOW! This thing is incredible! I was playing some bassy scenes (LOTR, etc) and the way this thing attacked when the ring hits the ground was incredible! So clean and gut wrenchingly powerful. And that was at a moderate volume, so I have the capability to run it even harder. It uses two 18" drivers from Mach 5 Audio, and a Crest V650 stereo amp (325w x 2)

The best part though was how well it kept up and drove when listening to music. The kick drums never sounded more real! It really has opened up the music...

My Klipsch mains are keeping up as well, and I have been enjoying my homemade speaker stands and AV rack.

Does IB provide drawings and dimensions on how to build the woofer boxes?

And do they supply the parts list for power supply and other assorted components?

Do you know what step down they use and at what octaves?

I have always been curious so I thougth I would ask.

Nice room, by the way. Wish I had something like that when I was your age!

I had to sneak in listening time when my father was not home, which was not often since his office was in the garage.

I would suggest reading about IB subs at the Cult of the Infinitely Baffled's FAQ page. They have tons of other stuff on that site as well, along with a message board to get personal help with projects there.

People who spend only around 600 dollars can run their IB from 10Hz to 60Hz flat.

You really only need
A) Either 2 or 4 large (15" -18") drivers
B) A pro-sound amp with adequate wattage
C) Build a baffle or manifold
D) EQ (not required)
