I have a HK 245 with Polk RM6900 satellites and am interested in going to 7.1. The polk 6801 satellites are not available until the end of May which are generally used to upgrade. The polk R300 floorstanding speakers are on sale at fry's for 50 each. Can I use these as my front speakers and move my current front speakers to rear or will they not match as far as overpowering. Someone please help I am a newbie and retarded.

That would work. You can move the satellites to the rear, and use the R300's as mains. What about a center channel?

I am using the same center channel that came with the rm6900's. I have heard that it might not mix right and I might have to upgrade but so far it seems fine to me. Then again this is my first ht setup and I don't know how it should sound.

You should get out and audition as many speakers as you can. You'll start to get a feel for what sound good to you and what doesn't. Bring your own material (DVD's, CD's) that your familier with to audition. Take your time and have fun.

I think this is the center for the R300's.

You can also run what they call a "Phantom Center Channel". All you do it toe the main speakers into your listening area. Your receiver should know that there is no center channel and direct what would have gone there to your mains.

You'll need to properly calibrate your system with a SPL meter from Radio Shack. It cost about $50 and is somewhat easy to you. Once you get to that point you can start a thread or search for info on how to do it.

That was not the correct center channel. I think it only comes in the 6900 package. Anyway, I am pretty happy with the way it sounds right know so I think I will leave it alone for the time being....Unless you think it will make that big of a difference. I already bought the r300's cause they were so cheap and it sounds great to me.

Timbre Matching the front 3 speakers is very important. You could always purchase another R300 if you have room to place it. (Don't know where your television is).

Fry's only sells the r300's in pairs. Either way there is no room for another one. The salesman at fry's said they would match but we all know they are full of it.

Do I really need a new center that bad? I know I'm new but it sounds ok to me. Will it make that big a difference?

I'm only giving you information. What you do with it is up to you. And only your ears can tell you if it blends with your main speakers. I hope it works out for you. :D

But e-mail Polk and ask them.
