This is just in, Tweeter home entertainment here in dallas, texas is closing all of its stores here in the dallas, fort worth metroplex!! I just found out from a friend who works at the Park Lane store that is across the street from Northpark mall and N. Central Expressway. He said that they will be open for the next 8 weeks and then they will close their doors forever.

Is the Tweeter company being discussed this one?
www.tweeter.com

If so, does the future closing of the stores involve only the Tweeter name brand or also Showcase?

Yeah Pat that's the one, I would venture to guess they'd close everything, like Best Buy would have to close Magnolia. I can't believe it, they're a big chain. One of my client's wife is a manager or human resource person (can't remember which) so most likely she'll be out of a job. Or unless they're restructuring and will close only non-key stores?

Yup, that's what the article says. They are closing several in Ga, all in Ca, Tx and a few in other states. They also announced opening a couple new ones. It's all in the link. Looks like the store here in SC is safe.

I found my answer to the question of what store brands were being affected.
Here's the news release from the Tweeter website:

I'm surprised to NOT see my local Tweeter store on the list. The Towson, MD store sits right next to Compusa (which sells TVs) and a few blocks from a very busy Best Buy with a very busy Magnolia. Whenever I go into the Tweeter, it seems that there are more very eager sales people than customers.

I'm not too surprised to hear this. They don't even have any Tweeter's up here in the Bay Area. I only know of 1 back home in San Diego, and that one's in a crappy location.

a year or so ago he was telling me how bad tweeter was doing. just a few months back I told him about the NFL ads tweeter was running and said something to him along the lines of I guess they pulled them selfs back up and are doing good.

I guess that's not true.

Either way, I've never bought anything from them.

The one near me is closing too... why can't they close the other one? That sucks, I always enjoyed going there, and they did a lot of car stereo work for me too. This is very unfortunate as that store isn't even that old. I wonder if I would be able to score some new/demo equipment for super cheap? I guess I'll have to stop by soon and see what's up.

Now if only they would do something about their (un)Sound Advice stores

I hate those stores and I hate their sales holes, I mean sales staff.

You're not kidding, the one down here in the Gables, man, the sales staff walks around as if they're doing you a favor just by looking at you. I think some (staff) were carry overs from before Tweeters bought out Sound Advice and they're still sporting their condescending attitudes from the old "high-end" hey days. I've no sympathy for them. Just a bunch of old tired jerks that no little about audio or video.

FWIW the folks at my local Twitter are fairly knowledgeable and most courteous. I called the store B4 BF to ask about the Pioneer plasmas they were going to put on sale. They told me that even if I were out of town and called a CC number in on BF they would give me the deal and hold it till I got back. I called at two minutes after opening and got the same guy. Not only did he honor the price, but b/c I bought two, he cut it another $300 each off the ad price.;) .

They are somewhat opinionated, but not really too pushy there. I'll buy again if they stay that way and have what I want.
