Since it is kind of slow on the website today and I am stuck in my office on a conference call; I thought it would be fun to post my first post on here and add the pictures of my set up that only lasted a couple of months and then add the pictures of the upgrade. Please forgive me but I am bored!

HT system

I have never posted on here before but wanted to say thanks. I read almost everything on here over the past 3 weeks to increase my knowledge of the HT world. This past weekend I embarked on my journey of installing my HT system. The set-up looks great and sounds ok; I will take some pictures and show them off in the near future. Below is what we did; all work was performed by me and a friend who had very little knowledge of HT systems. The local custom installers wanted ~ $1000 to do this…it cost me 3 beers and some good scotch…

Mounted 42” LCD above fireplace

Ran 5.1 system; wired for a 7.1

Ran 2 speakers outside for the patio

Ran almost 400 ft of speaker through the walls and attic

Ran 50ft RGB from video source to LCD

Ran satellite box from back of room to LCD

I saved a ton of money after reading hints on this site. I took back all my monster cable stuff and replaced it with 14 awg CL-3 speaker wire from Home Depot, all video/audio cables and connectors from Blue Jean’s or Mono-price. The job took some time but helpful hints on “fishing” wires through walls helped a lot.

Above you will notice that I said that the system sounds “ok”; this is because I had to use a Sony dream-system HTIB that I already had. The system is located in a room that is 25ft x 30 ft with 14ft ceilings. After my “significant other” saw how clean the install was and heard the sound, she was very impressed. I have now talked her in to letting me upgrade for Christmas. It will be a simple process of just swapping out the devices now that I am wired for everything.

Here is what I get for Christmas:

AXIOM Epic Master / 350
YAMAHA RX-N600 or one of the nice Onkyo’s. She is limiting me to all silver components.
50” LCD. I haven’t picked out which one yet.

Once again…thanks for the help

I thought it turned out nice for my first shot! Not a single wire could be seen and boy was it pretty. Now the sound was a different matter...

Wow, the old system was an eyesore.

OK, I guess EARsore would probably be a better term then...:) It is just painful to look at HTiB systems sometimes ;)

Well JG; you are correct. I am glad it only had to be there for a couple of months.

Now my conf. call is over and I can get out of here in about 20 minutes. The only issue is that my car has a Bose stereo; I cant help it, that's what it came with...

Man, I just realized it, my car and my wife's car has a Bose system. And they say there's no such things as conspiracies.

You can run, you can hide, but you cannot escape the impending doom of Bose!:D
