Well, this makes my 600th post, so I thought I would commemorate that buy starting my first ever thread.
And what better first thread topic, then about my stereo…
Some time after I set up my HT, I realized; ‘hay! I want a nice two channel rig!’… so I went about getting one.
The first thing that I picked up was the A-1D, I know that speakers should have come first, but it was the last run of the things and I didn’t want to risk it, because it fit my needs, it was the only new integrated amp I could find in my price range that I liked, and it just looks so dang cool!
But I found it to be a nice little amplifier, it has all discrete components (well, I think there is one IC in there), will power 4 ohms.
Then I bought the iQ1’s. sight unheard. You see, the coaxial design intrigued me a lot, and since the nearest KEF dealer is several hundred miles away, and auditioning them was pretty much out of the question, I bought them on-line having never heard them before. Don’t try that at home kids!
But, I am really quite pleased with them, they sound spectacular - vocals and horns especially - and the imaging is involving.
Then the DCD-C750, partly because I like Yamaha, but mostly because just about nobody makes a relatively affordable universal disc changer.
And the AudioQuest interconnections, partly because they look cool and it can impress the wine and cheese types, but also because BJC would have been more expensive, and I didn’t know about monoprice.com at the time.
