And now begins the war against the theatre room...
It's a big old house, and the third floor consists of a room, which is currently in subfloor and drywall, it's basically rectangular, 20x32, and 8"6" tall... what are good options for floorcoverings, and what do i have to worry about in a room of that size? there is a moderately large staircase opening (6' wide) on the left side, and the top two feet of the walls are sloped at about a 45 degree angle... i don't actually have internet at the house untill friday afternoon, so it might be a day before you get another response, but hopefully then i'll have some sort of drawing... Thanks for any input/opinions!

Is that war with the spouse or just in general? :D

Nice size room.
I would suggest a good thick subfloor and carpets. Not to worry about that sloping ceiling.

How much sound isolation from the rest of the house you are looking for?
How much do you like the low frequency impact? That is the hardest to keep out from the rest of the house.

it's my house, and my little brother is the other person living with me, so, i'm not super concerned about isolation from the rest of the house, just as long as it doesn't bother the neighbors to much, which hopefully the third floor thing will help with that problem, i'm more concerned about good sound in the room. I'm a fan of low frequency effects, and would like to design the room that way, sorry about the lack of illustration, i'll hunt down a way to make that happen soon!

Thanks!

oh, and he spouse is still in girlfriend status, so, she's pretty easy to get along with :) the house is a hud repo, and there's not a finished room in it, literally, so, it's pretty much a war... :S

Well, in that case, you need to set a goal, a budget and what you think you want in there: Front projection with 1080p quality as that is here and will be it for a good while; a few seats or a two rows; that room would take a nice 7.1 setup; how close are the neighbors.

You have a glorious journey ahead of you building out your area. I hope to have that kind of setup in my next house.
