newbie connector question

Hey Guys,

I am slowly piecing together my HT sytem and in the process to required to users some older components that I have on hand. The receiver I currently on (up next for replacement) only has inputs for Analog Audio. My DVD player only has digital audio outs via a coax connector. Does someone make a cable that would mate to this scenario or will I need to raise the priority on getting a new receiver?

TIA,

-Jason

Look again.

I've yet to see a DVD player that doesn't offer the ubiquitious red/white analog audio outputs but, then again, there's stil stuff I ain't seen yet.

but, check again just to be real sure.

Thanks for the quick response MarkW. Made me re-read my post. I do have the stereo audio out. What I meant to ask was to use the digital out to the analog in for 5.1 audio

You seem to be stuck for now. Disk players that handle SACD or DVDA have 5.1 analog outs, but most others have stereo analog outs and either/both coax or fiber optic (square thingies) outputs. Obviously you can use the stereo outs but I don't think there is any sort of kludge that will allow you to use the digital outs for 5.1 analog. You might want to be sure that your receiver doesn't have a digital input. The coaxial ones look just like an analog RCA connector (which in fact they are) and might be inconspicuous among all the other RCA jacks.
