Hsu VTF 3-Mk3

I just recieved a VTF3 MK3 w/ Turbo yesterday but havent really calibrated it, so far im impressed even tho its not a "vast" improvment over my previous Klipsch RW-12d. For some reason with the turbo attached it loses some midbass 'punch' and doesnt really go a lot deeper ,the bass seems plenty deep without the turbo and I like the extra punch ,unless im doing something wrong?

Interesting. I looked at the review again and I don't see any numbers above 31.5 Hz that he measure. The turbo did increase the 20Hz output from 109dB to 112dB.

You may need to do test tone measurements?

Yea Im going to get an SPL meter this afternoon so I can get things calibrated better, I turned the subwoofer sideways so the woofer is facing out towards the room instead of facing the wall and it helped, I tested the lord of the rings (Sauron Explodes, Chap 1) with both ports open and 25hz , 1 port open and 18hz then finally with Turbo and 18hz selected and the Turbo definately won here.

Why would you turn the sub to face the wall? You don't like it looking out with those two eyes on top? Reminds someone of childhood monster stories? LOL

Yes, a meter and some test tones will help. Don't forget, the RS meter has a correction that needs to be calculated. Should be available someplace on google, or I may have it someplace if I can find it

I would say it is more the act of lowering port tuning that reduces some punchiness in the sound, as opposed to simply using the turbocharger. With a higher port tuning, there will be higher output at common bass frequencies relative to very deep bass output in comparison to the situation where port tuning is lowered. That said, the VTF-3 Mk3 is quite strong even at 20Hz in maximum output mode (both ports open, no turbocharger). To get some of the best of both worlds, one can run the VTF-3 Mk3 with turbocharger in extended bass mode, and add an MBM-12 to handle mid/upper bass. Then you will get very good ultra deep bass response, in addition to very good mid-bass punch.
